The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'd never really had a chance to watch the show until Spike TV started playing them.

school boards shall prohibit the denial of daily outdoor recess or unstructured play to a student for disciplinary reasons, unless the parent of the student notifies the school principal in writing that the student may be excused from all or part of recess as a means to discipline the student.

Heh, when Clare was in the third grade, the teacher had a problem getting her to finish doing her work. She'd keep her in from recess, and when she told me this I just chuckled, then she realized that for Clare, that was not a punishment. ;o)

Got it... I guess I'll have to wait and go back later for the spoilers... :-)

Recess is about the only leverage publik skul teachers have left.

Local talk radio was all over this guy for his other bill. No playing/practicing any sport on a field within 65 feet of a residence between the hours of 6 pm and 8 am without written consent of those homeowners in that range.

What an idjit.

Yeah, what's up with that athletic field stuff? That obviously means no Thursday night football games for middle schools, Friday night games for high schools or Saturday night games for colleges if some disgruntled homeowner decides to complain.

Idjit, indeed!

It's not just the games. It means no practice after 6.

And the way it's written, athletic field could mean any professional event as well...

If those weren't spoilers I'm going to be very upset.

My aunt Grace kinda does that. She and my uncle Marvin bought some land in Acton (in the country) many moons ago. They built their house on the land and then their daughter, Terri, and her husband built a house next door on the same land. Her son now has bought a home very close, but "in town" since he ad his wife commute to Lockheed every day. The girls live in Fort Worth still.

He, we drive by the cemetery where Davy Crockett's wife was buried on the way to Aunt Grace's house, which incidently, is also where my uncle Marvin was buried when he passed away.

For the life of me, I'll never understand why...

Heh...some of us are more fortunate than others in the family department...

The thing is, we really talk it up to the boys...I hope they marry someone that likes me and will not mind staying near me and even (I hope I hope) will let me help with the teaching of their (hopefully) half dozen (each) kids!

It may be just a pipe dream, but nonetheless...

We all ribbed my brother a bit about his marrying a gal from about as far away as you can get from VT and still remain in the continental US. I think CA would be the only place that'd be farther!

But then, VT is kinda far from anywhere. ;-)

Heh...by the time your boys are fathers, maybe someone will have invented a transporter...

I like my folks a lot, but in some ways I'm glad I'm not living next door to them. It'd be nice to go over for Sunday dinner and all but also I can see how there could be downsides.

As to the boys marrying girls who like you, at least, I'd expect nothing less!

No downsides! No downsides! I hope they take absolute advantage of me!

Heh heh!

I do hope they like me...I've been praying for them since my boys were born.
