for Tammy
I agree, but he really should, if it was just about vocals.
Becky
LOL! But I believe Simpson is that dumb. The Gherkin is putting on an act, IMO.
And I have to say, as a North Carolinian, her accent really irritates me, just like John Edwards'. It doesn't sound natural.
That's what I say. She talked about salmon last night the same way she talked about calamari last week. Enough.
I am not sure it is an act. Kelli is sweet, cute, and naive with a decent voice. Vocally she can't win, but she will have the most loyal fan base carry her a long ways.
A new word--I like it!
As strange as it sounds, if it were up to me, I would choose Mandisa as the odd woman out.
???
Mandisa is exactly what the Top 12 needs. If it wasn't for her, the girl's competition would've been a total snooze.
Does Kellie realistically have a shot at winning? I think the show would be diminished if the exact same person won two years in a row.
SPOILERS FOR THE MEN TONIGHT (FROM OTHER IDOL BOARDS ):
Will Makar - "How Sweet It Is" by James Taylor
Taylor Hicks - "Taking It To the Streets" by Michael McDonald
Gedeon McKinney - "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge
Kevin Covais - "Vincent" by Don McLean
Chris Daughtry - "Broken" by Seether
Ace Young - "Butterfly" by Michael Jackson
Elliott Yamin - "Heaven" by Bryan Adams
Sorry, don't have Bucky Convington's song.
COMMENTS REGARDING SUITABILITY OF SONG TO SINGER ARE MOST WELCOME.
IMHO, boring and way too predictable.
Taylor Hicks - "Taking It To the Streets" by Michael McDonald
Ehh. Fits his voice but also too predictable.
Gedeon McKinney - "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge
Intersting choice. Could be a home run or a strike out.
Kevin Covais - "Vincent" by Don McLean
zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Awful choice.
Chris Daughtry - "Broken" by Seether
If this is the order then I can't imagine two more diametrically opposed singers. Broken is a great, great choice for Chris. Right in his wheelhouse.
Ace Young - "Butterfly" by Michael Jackson
Doesn't matter. The tweens will sail him through even if he just stood there and belched the alphabet.
Elliott Yamin - "Heaven" by Bryan Adams
Personally don't care for the song but it will give him a chance to show off the voice. Interesting selection.
Sorry, don't have Bucky Convington's song.
Some country rock I'm sure. Won't matter. He's gone this week anyway.
Safe choice from someone looking to cruise into the finals unscathed. Probably smart.
Taylor Hicks - "Taking It To the Streets" by Michael McDonald
Will it wow me? I doubt it.
Gedeon McKinney - "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge
Good choice - he may as well play up the old-school R&B thing as much as he can.
Kevin Covais - "Vincent" by Don McLean
Good for his voice, bad for his prospects. He needs something a lot more energetic... what am I saying, whether he stays or goes has nothing to do with his singing, but rather the puppy-dog factor.
Chris Daughtry - "Broken" by Seether
Never heard of it. Let me guess: more grunting and screaming into a microphone masquerading as singing? Yawn.
Ace Young - "Butterfly" by Michael Jackson
GIC.
Elliott Yamin - "Heaven" by Bryan Adams
Good choice. Likely to be the performance of the night.
Sorry, don't have Bucky Convington's song.
Does it matter? It'll be yet another off-key boring rockin' country song that you can't understand the words to.
Help me out here....what does this mean?
As for Chris and Broken, it is not "more grunting and screaming into a microphone masquerading as singing?" I take it you don't care for any alternative rock then. I do and am very happy for a reprive from the boring, syrupy, formulaic ballads eeked out every week on AI and top 40 radio. Chris is the unique one in this competition because he performs a genre that most of the audience is completely unfamiliar with. Which is, of course, why he won't win. But I also believe that will be good for him because 19 won't ruin him with crappy cookie cutter songs.
Hi jonny!
Had to duck out early last night with a sick child. Hope to be on the thread for the duration tonight though.
My summary:
Paris- I honestly DO NOT get the judges fascination with her. She is an annoying little pip squeak, and she her perfromances for the last couple of weeks, have really sucked. Especially last night. The judges weren't listening to the same thing I was I guess. She was flat and pitchy. It was just awful in my opinion. Unfortunately, I think we are stuck with her. Favorite to win- God forbid.
Melissa- good choice for her, but agree she sounded like she was shouting. Though, I blame that damn band for always playing so loudly. She goes tomorrow.
Kinnik- Just okay. She goes also.
Ayla- I think the beginning was atrocious, but I love that song, and she pulled it out in the middle to end.
Lisa- I think she did well, but also unremarkable. She is a beautiful young girl, with talent that needs to keep being cultivated. She should do the cover of Seventeen mag.
Mandisa- HOLY COW! That lady has some pipes. Truly was in a class all her own. More than deserving of the title of "the best". She has a stage presence that is undeniable. She seems to have a wonderful heart as well. I will never forget the way she so eloquently and tactfully called Simon out for his rude comments, humbling Simon to the point of an apology.
Pickles- Another one who is just okay. Her personality is "cute" but wearing thin. She has the look of an Idol though. She will probably be good over time, but right now, her voice is still a little weak and shaky.
Katharine- Nice performance, well done. I think she is smashingly gorgeous. Nice full figured girl, beautiful smile, and can sing. Bubbly, fun personality. The whole package in my opinion and still my favorite to win unless a guy pulls it off.
As far as tonight- I will predict ahead of time that Kevin and Bucky's numbers are up. Chris will be awesome, Taylor will hopefully also be great. The rest, well, who cares?
ping to my post #9351
Anxious to here your take on last night!
Also, hope you are feeling better today.
.......btw....next week is supposed to be a heartbreaker, someone we all like dies...
Could you fr-mail me? I can't stand the suspense.
Gender-Identity-Challenged. I coined the term in auditions for the "Brokeback" contestants.
Singing George Michael and Michael Jackson songs isn't going to help Ace with the "light in the loafers" rap he's getting.
Do you listen to Rick and Bubba? They had Taylor on this morning. He was so cute and funny. :) He really seems to be a likeable guy. In fact he thanked his fan in Alabama who sent him some bbq ribs. :) He said if anyone wanted to send him some turnip greens that would be great too! :) He said he is really excited about the song he was singing tonight and that his fans should like it too. Rick and Bubba are going to send him some Dreamland Ribs and he was happy about that. :)
He'll sing it badly. Last show for him. Taylor Hicks - "Taking It To the Streets" by Michael McDonald
Hard to say what way it will go. I'm guessing it will be the performance of the night since he hasn't really broken out yet, but has the capability.
Gedeon McKinney - "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge
Good song for him, he'll do well and move on.
Kevin Covais - "Vincent" by Don McLean
Don't know the song, but it don't matter. He'll go home unless Bucky or Ace really stinks it up tonight.
Chris Daughtry - "Broken" by Seether
Never heard of the song. He'll do good though.
Ace Young - "Butterfly" by Michael Jackson
Oh boy. Every week he loses the female vote more and more if you know what I mean.
Elliott Yamin - "Heaven" by Bryan Adams
Good song for his voice. Should be a great performance.
Sorry, don't have Bucky Convington's song.
If he stinks, he'll go home. If he does okay, Covais will go home.
I don't know who it is...if I find out I'll let you know
Your comments about the females are exactly how I feel. Katharine is my favorite, but if Mandisa keeps belting out tunes she's going to surprise everyone and take it.
I have a fear that it is Tony. And I think he will make the old CTU director go with him. I will really be sick if it is Tony. :(
