AI has a per song budget regarding licensing-- for their performance shows. It's quite high-- like $1000 or so. I thought a 30 second clip like the auditions was fair use.

C'mon Wolfstar...don't give away all the downlow and dirty show biz secrets. Not on this thread, anyway.
Haven't you ever heard of the "willing suspension of disbelief"?

Is he Gay or transgenderedly undecided.
Regardless He is clueless about his lack of musical ability and blaming his sexual identity crisis on losing was beyond eye rolling.
If his girlfreind loves him she should get him to a proffesional eyebrow waxer if he insists on plucking.

The Cowboy was a handsome Lad.
Nice family in the few minutes they showed his story.
Except doing his home on the range clip gave it away that he was going to Hollywood.

Haven't you ever heard of the "willing suspension of disbelief"?You have no way of knowing this, of course, but I had discussed this subject privately with Jonny. Then Beandog posted a fair comment on the thread based on what turns out to be Simon Cowell flapping his gums nastily, but incorrectly. When the correct info came out, I posted it to them.
I should think that anything posted on the thread is open for further discussion. However, you need not worry about my bothering your "suspension of disbelief" again.

This is what happens when you do too many drugs....
This is what happens when no one ever tells you you're a moron. (Yes. Please build me a coaster that's designed TO SPILL MY DRINK!!)
And this, this is what happens when mommy let's her "little boy" do what ever makes "him" feel good.
I don't know what was funnier. Seeing Zachary or seeing judge Randy Jackson say "You're a guy? Really?!?"
I mean come on, is it any wonder people think he was a girl? He was wearing a girl's shirt, girl's pants/belt, girl's shoes (HIGH FREAKING HEAL BOOTS!!), has his hair cut like a girl's, weighs about 90lbs, and has a voice like girl's!!
HELLO!!
Are both his ears pierced and was he wearing makeup too?
And looking at that picture it looks like HE PLUCKS HIS EYEBROWS!!

Another night, another
Idol... by my count, they showed all of
seven people making it into Hollywood from Denver, though there were obviously others that we didn't get to hear.
First and foremost, let me say that barring a total meltdown or an amazing amount of talent yet to be seen, Lisa Tucker should be considered an early favorite to win the competition, almost certainly a top-5 contestant. She may be 16, but she looks much more composed and poised than that, she's pretty, and most of, the girl can sing -- great tone, good technique, nice power, nice control, excellent consistency between the lower and higher registers.
After that, it was hard to get excited about the others.
- Brett ("Ace") Young is another one of those guys with an OK voice, but way to "breathy" for my tastes.
- There's nothing to complain about with Rochelle Elaine Dye... I just think there'll be at least half a dozen other folks making it to Hollywood who are going to look and sound almost exactly the same.
- Chris Daughtry ("the rocker") is an interesting case: I don't think he has the vocal chops to show the necessary versatility, but he looks like a good performer who can possibly go quite a way with only a mediocre voice.
- Speaking of mediocre voices, Heather Cox has got the right look, but doesn't impress me as a top contender with her voice.
- Now, as for standing out in the crowd, we have Garet Johnson... I'll admit when I first saw him, I thought "gay cowboy", but he really just seems to be a shy, lonely kid who has completely undeveloped wild talent. Bringing him to Hollywood is really just a charity move by Randy and Simon (!), but with training, there is an excellent voice waiting to come out in there. Very similar to taking the street dancer Ryan on the dance show over the summer, for those who watched that. I hope, but don't expect, that he'll do well -- what a story if he does!
- April Walsh was surprisingly good compared to what I was expecting, but her vocal and performance styles are far more musical theater than pop.
On to Greensboro, NC...

And why the heck does everyone sing Chain of Fools??!! The world is full of songs... and that one is stale. Given the sheer number of people who sing the same songs, I wouldn't be surprised if they're told they have to sing the one they prepared plus one from a short list -- we may not see it all on the air (though we are occassionally treated to those wonderful "loser montage" segments).

I have not heard about all of this until the thread. I don't think they should be asking to sing her newest songs. They should only have dibs on the ones that AI produced period.
To: Wolfstar
At 16, Diana was probably too green to win AI. No offense, but nonsense. Fantasia is only older than Diana by a matter of weeks, and the only reason Diana didn't win is that Simon had already cornoated Fantasia and swayed the audience. (Yanking the sound system out from under Diana during the finale just made sure of it.)

If Paula says you suck then you suck Correction: If Paula says you suck then you really, really suck.
Of course, in this "guy's" case, that term probably is literal as well as figurative.

"Flawless" just might set a new fashion trend...snicker. You make it big in the business and you can dress like that. Until then, you're a nutjob.

I don't think they should be asking to sing her newest songs. They should only have dibs on the ones that AI produced period. They really don't have "dibs" on anything -- they should be treating Kelly Clarkson like any other artist whose material they want to use. If it is current, the licensing fees are going to be higher that the older stuff, though.

Excellent point. So what is the problem? Are they wanting to use her material without paying the fees? I have not heard about any of this.
To: EmilyGeiger
From what I've seen here, the Idol team is misreprenting the fee negotiations in order to make a "story" out of Kelly "refusing" to give AI permission.
