"My 15 year old daughter loved it."

I guess I'm not 15...LOL.

Here's the latest AOL poll results. It looks bad for Chicken Little.

1) Katherine
2) Kellie
3) Chris
4) Taylor
5) Ace
6) Mandisa
7) Elliott
8) Bucky
9) Lisa
10)Paris
11)Kevin

For the record, AOL's poll hasn't been as accurate as last year.

Ok everyone, I have a question.... Did anyone happen to watch the new show by Simon called "The American Inventor" last week? Is anyone interested in a thread during that show, like we have here for AI or for 24? I hope no one thinks I'm being ridiculous or flames me for this, but I just thought it would be fun and quite entertaining. Any thoughts welcome.

My thoughts on last nights show:

Mandisa - Flawless. That girl can flat out sing. The whole "Mandiva" thing is completely inaccurate. A "diva" is someone with an attitude. She does not have that. I like her a lot and I hope she makes top 5. I don't think she will win because she doesn't "look" the part and America won't vote enough for her.

Bucky - Following Mandisa, he must have thought, "Someone set us up the bomb!" That was a setup if I've ever seen it. He looked positively ridiculous following Mandisa. Unless he has a huge redneck/NASCAR fan base following the show, he's bottom 3 sooner rather than later.

Paris - great vocal but I cannot get into her performances. I just don't connect with anything she does. It was "a'ight"...

Chris - When I heard he was doing Cash's "Walk the Line" I was like, uh-oh. But then when he decided to rearrange it into a modern, alt-rock song, I thought it had potential. Frankly, I thought the whole arrangement was absolutely brilliant. That is the second time i've seen a brilliant artistic performance like that on this show (first was Bo's a capella version of In a Dream last year). Sure, he missed some notes but he could release that song on the radio right now and it would be a smash. Brilliant performance and he remains the one to beat IMHO.

Katherine - She's growing on me. She's always had great vocal ability but a cold, robotic nature on stage. She's getting better as she's getting sexier and more sultry. She should be top 5.

Taylor - I love Taylor but that performance was just not up to par. Bad song choice but a good performance. He'll cruise through and live to wow us somewhere down the line.

Lisa - as with Paris, good vocal but just no connection. She cute and fun but just doesn't seem to connect. She belongs back on Broadway where she will be a star. Not good enough to make it in "popular" music IMHO.

Kevin - zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz. Enough already. The act is wearing thin and it's time to go. Now.

Elliot - as I've said before, I am simply missing what people are hearing with Elliot. I have never once been captivated by a single second of his performances. Last night was no different.

Kellie - I have to say that for the first time, I heard something in her vocal that made me notice. That was a pretty good performance. I still cannot stand to look at her as the whole poor-blonde-bumkin act is getting old. That and her makeup was dreadful. If I could just listen and not have to look at her and hear her speak, she might be tolerable...

G'Ace - actually, I thought it was pretty good. I thought it was a good arrangement and it surprised me coming from him. Decent vocal but the whole "stare" crap at the end of EVERY SONG has to stop. Creepy.

Top Tier - Mandisa, Katherine, Chris

Middle of the Road - Taylor, Kellie, G-Ace

I Just Don't Get It - Elliot, Paris, Lisa

Need to go home - Kevin and Bucky

Predicted Bottom 3 - Bucky, Kevin, and Lisa

Who should go home - Kevin

Who will go home - Bucky

If there is a surprise, it will be Elliot in the bottom 3.

I didn't have a favorite performance last night, although it was the best overall night so far.

Just as an aside, I was thinking last night that none of them have reached the level that they ALL did the very first night when the public started voting on who to eliminate. When it was 12 girls and 12 boys. Man both of those nights the whole group was just right on, IMO. I've been waiting for another one of those nights, and it just hasn't happened.

It's sad you have to worry people are going to flame you for that.

I know some people here watched it last week and said it was pretty good. I don't know if there is going to be a live thread or ping list. I don't ask about that kind of stuff any more because then I always get roped into doing it. LOL!!

I would enjoy an The American Inventor thread. I admit I have not yet seen it but I am interested in it. If you do it in the form a a Ping, please add me. Thank you very much.

Have you seen it? Are the judges people we know? Did you see any neato inventions?

Good analysis. I sorta like Bucky's gravely voice, but he's just not doing good enough. I'd be stunned if he didn't go home tonight.

I agree about the Ace stare. It's like he's trying to put us into a trance to vote for him. I really don't like when men go into falsetto. The only two men I've ever heard do a falsetto and had it sound "right" are Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak. Most men just sound goofy when they try it.

Well you could use "An IMPPD is a better weapon..." but then you'd just have to answer too many questions.

I'll try to keep my profundity to 60 or so characters :-P

To me that is just the tip of the iceberg. To me what we are seeing is the landscape of American Idol changed by one individual. Chris is not just a singer, he is a performer and an writer and he is using both to his advantage. Creating new versions of older songs or songs out side of his realm. Where do you think the music to Chris' version of "Walk the Line" came from? I'll tell you where, he wrote it, created it and gave it to the band to play. In effect we are watching Chris Daughtry rewrite the rules of American Idol. You are seeing the future of the show as some this year but the majority in the future will follow this formula and change music to make it fit who they are. If you missed tonight's episode I think it is fair to say you missed a tiny bit of TV history.

That is exactly what I loved about that performance. Every other performance in the history of American Idol (with the possible exception of Bo's "In A Dream" a capella version last year) are mere copies of the original with slight changes to the vocals to "make it their own." Chris fundamentally changed a classic song and remade it completely. That was a true display of artistry that showed his abilities. Brilliant.

It must be said, however, that it has been done in a show like this before. Over the summer, Rock Star INXS had performances like that every week. We saw completely different versions of several well known songs. Best example was "Hit Me Baby One More Time" done by an alt-rock performer named Marty Casey. He did the same thing and turned that piece of bubble gim pop into an alt-rock, meloncholy masterpiece. But Chris did it on the biggest stage and in a way not ever seen on AI.

and it just hasn't happened

Hi Becky. I agree with you. I'm waiting for that one breakout performance, but it hasn't happened. I guess it depends on what kind of music a person likes.

I think at this point it's pretty easy to pick who the top 5 are (whether or not they'll be voted in the top 5). Not in any order, they are Chris, Taylor, Katharine, Paris and Mandisa.

I guess a lot of people will think Chris was the best last night, but his grim alternative style just doesn't do it for me. AI has always been about stretching the contestants outside their comfort zones. Now Chris is being praised for refusing to do exactly that. Ugh!

I usually think Mandisa is one of the best, but last night she lost the song at the end and really screamed it.

Paris has a big talent, but there's something about the girl that just doesn't connect with me.

I have gone back and forth with Taylor. Some nights I really enjoy him and others are just blah. His song choice last night just might be the worst ever on AI. The sad thing is that Taylor is the only one of the 11 who actually made a stab at really doing the 1950's, but his bad choice of songs killed chance he had to pull it off.

Katharine's performance last night was her best so far, but again, she just doesn't connect with me. I still think she's got the best pure vocals in the competition, but there's something sloppy and insincere about her performance skills.

Paris is frustrating, because she almost doesn't seem to know how to be young. She has this wind-up doll kind of aura about her. She's unable to bring any kind of sincerity or feeling to a song. Barry Manilow spotted it right away. He told her 'Fever' is a mature song and asked her if she was sure she wanted to do it. She should have listened to him.

Elliott is the best of the rest, but I did not enjoy him last night.

Don't feed him. If you already have, next time you have him over and the meal is done, put all the plates on the floor for the dog to lick clean, then let him see you put them back in the cabinet. I'm guessing he won't show up again.

People like Chris, Mandesa and Taylor don't need this competiion to make it in the music business. While the fact that they sing every week helps the ratings, it doesn't help someone who needs to win to get ahead in the business.

I didn't watch it, but I wish I had. I saw a commercial for it where this guy is showing an illustration of his invention and the judge says "so, your invention is a stick?"

Hysterical! I think a live thread would be fun. Much fodder for we critics.
