I try to work on my own whenever I can now. I don't like being without my computer anyway.

I hated being without my PC and was pretty grumpy these past couple of weeks. I'm going go try to learn more about the hardware side of PC's so maybe I can do some repairs myself.

Most of it isn't too hard. Biggest thing is grounding. I've replaced, A drives, Roms, hard drives. The booklets that come with your computer generally walk you through pretty well. And you can always pop a thread up before you do anything to find out if there is anything to watch for, for whatever it is you are going to do. There are lots of knowledgeable FReepers around to offer what they know.

I know, so me might disagree and I don't know why she won't let AI use her songs or whatever.

Actually, she has agreed to let AI use her songs. The same day Simon flapped his gums about this nonsense, a constestant sang 'Since U Been Gone' on the show that night.

Kelly has been an enormous success over the past year, and she's been working hard to grow past just being tagged as a reality show winner. Bear in mind that, as the first AI winner, Kelly is the trailblazer for both the show and all the contestants who have followed.

Early this AI season, it almost seemed that the powers behind AI were desperate to re-identify themselves with her. Why? Kelly's success brings the show a measure of credibility no other contemporary reality or talent show has ever been able to achieve. I mean, the show has produced a double Grammy winner! It puts the show and its winners on a whole new level.

The AI powers should be thanking Kelly, not the other way around.

Very true! She gives them credibility. And you're right she has worked hard. I'm hoping Carrie does the same. Then she can send Simon a jar of pickles.

LOL! Every year Simon seems to feel the need to pimp the current contestants by dissing previous contestants. Last year Simon took a not-so-subtle swipe at Kelly and Clay when he told Carrie she would be the biggest selling Idol ever.

This year he told one contestant in the Hollywood round that he reminded Simon of Clay Aiken, only nicer. And, of course, he said Pickler was better than last year's winner. As Jonny will tell you, I am not a Carrie fan and have struggled to be positive about her. Even so, Pickler never saw the day when she was remotely comparable to Carrie, let alone better than her. what's right, is right, and Carrie deserves her props even from a non-fan like me.

BTW, in case you're curious, I think Carrie is a gorgeous young woman with a beautiful singing voice. But to me she has the same problem as Katharine McPhee does this year -- their performances are detatched and mechanical, so I have trouble connecting with them. Again, that's just my opinion and I know many people disagree with me. But I hope Carrie continues to do very well in her career and, should Katharine win, I would wish the same for her.

Since we are into the topic of Clay Aiken, here is the latest report about him :

http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publish/article_27264153.shtml

THE NATIONAL LEDGER

By Jennifer Cox
Mar 17, 2006

Embattled American Idol runner up Clay Aiken has been peppered with rumors and allegations for the past month on his sexual orientation by a character that many have described as 'a sleazy wannabe' named John Paulus.

The former marine appears hell-bent on ruining Aiken, and it appears now that Clay has employed a bit of damage control.

Although the public face is business as usual and the continued statement being "no comment", the gay sex scandal surrounding the crooner has seriously rocked Team Clay.

Us Weekly magazine quoted an unnamed pal of Aiken's, "Everyone is worried. Nobody wants to see Clay go down."

So what sights did the singer take in on his European Vacation while his fans breathlessly awaited news of his next CD? The New York Post reports that while in the Czech Republic the pop-star was spotted enjoying Prague's largest and best know gay club, Candyland.

Another sighting immediately followed within hours of the New York Post's report. The sighting, reported by Defamer had Aiken spotted conspicuously on March 8 lunching with 3 ladies (no men in sight) in Hollywood.

PR execs take note.

***

Indeed.

Defamer reports he was he was wearing a striped sweater and when he left he put on a floppy Woody Allen type hat. It seemed like no one in the restaurant noticed him.

But Defamer did and reported on it - so mission accomplished. Damage control achieved.

And frankly - it's not going to matter to most of his fans whatever his sexual orientation, but it does appear as if he is dealing with this with a bit of PR.

It's good to see him fight back a bit against this Paulus character.

COMMENT :

None of my business and has nothing to do with his singing career. But inquiring minds want to know ( especially this one, since I voted for him over Ruben ), is he or isn't he gay ?

All I know is he has openly DENIED being gay. How are we going to determine whether this slime bag named Paulus is telling the truth ?

I just bought both of Kelly's albums.
Easy to see why Breakaway's such a hit.

Has any AI winner had such a good recording voice?
She's amazing.

I almost wish the contest had them behind a screen so we could just judge by voice.
Also bought Bo's :::not good::: ":^(
Also Carrie's. Compared to Kelly, she's sweet but hasn't nearly the depth.

(Also had to get Johnny Cash's Live at San Quentin album, since we just saw Walk the Line)

Our son went to preschool at San Quentin.
On the outskirts there's a neighborhood built eons ago for the guards and their families, including an old abandoned school house with blocks and toys left from the 1930's.

An amazing lady turned it into a co-op preschool. She was the teacher, and the parents took turns as helpers each day.

We had to be screened and everything!
Lived in Larkspur at the time, across from San Francisco.

1) It's none of my business. Clay's recording career (emphasize recording) is in limbo pending the release of a 2nd non-seasonal album by him. If and when one is released, I'll assess its merits based on the music, not who he may sleep with.

2) I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt until and unless they do something to make me change my mind. Clay has said he is not gay. I'll take his word for it until and unless Clay, himself, indicates otherwise. The creep who sold his story to The Enquirer is hardly a reliable source, in my opinion.

3) Even if Clay were to out himself, see #1 above. To me it's about the music and the ability of the performer to entertain me. As long a celebrity doesn't use their fame to disparage this country, and as long as they don't try to shove their perversions in my face, I'm happy.

I think both Carrie and Clay have good recording voices. Having said that -- and also acknowledging that we all have our own distinct likes and dislikes -- I think Kelly is head and shoulders over them.

I'm a pretty tough audience, especially when it comes to female celebrities, because I usually enjoy men and male voices much more. But Kelly literally gave me the chills when I heard her sing during the first season, and I became a huge fan. The girl not only has the voice, but she has that rare natural ability to almost become every song she sings and to get the audience feeling what she feels about a song.

No kidding! Wish I'd seen season one.

Her concerts must be dynamite.

BTW, doodlelady, the first season of AI has been syndicated and will be shown on cable TV in the fall. No word yet as to which cable network will carry it, although if it stays in the Fox family it might be on FX. Since you didn't see the first season, you might consider trying to see it on cable. You'll be amazed at the then 19/20-year-old Kelly and her natural talent. People use the term "the whole package." She's it.

Audiences love her. Here are a couple of shots from recent concerts in England. They give you an idea of her popularity.

Simon Cowell predicts top three 'Idols'

NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) -- "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell predicts the final three in this season's finals will be Chris Daughtry, Taylor Hicks and Kellie Pickler.

Cowell made his prediction for the Fox TV talent competition during a Thursday telephone conversation broadcast on Howard Stern's Sirius satellite radio show, the New York Post reported Friday.

"Let me tell you who's gonna be in the finals," Cowell said. "The bald-headed kid (Daughtry) and the guy with gray hair (Hicks)."

A few minutes later, he added, "I think the top three will be the two I mentioned and Kellie Pickler."

Around this time last year, Cowell correctly predicted Carrie Underwood would take the crown, the newspaper noted.

__________________________________________

Why is he so bent on Kellie? She is definitely not one of the top 3 talents there. Taylor and Chris, yes, but Kellie...ugh.

Hi Jonny. Photo shoot pics of this year's contestants are starting to show up on the internet. I found this one of Katharine on KCE. It was posted there because it's a flat out copy of a pose Kelly did for a photo shoot a year or two ago.

If you want to compare it to the Kelly version, here's a link to the photo. It's copyrighted, so out of respect for FR's rules, I won't post it here.

Also this bit of news: word on KCE is that the whole taRANtula thing with Pickler the other night was scripted and rehearsed. Don't know if this is reliable, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's true. I mention it because so much of what gets posted on KCE is factual.

I'm guessing that the article you mentioned is a plant from an AI publicist, and that in reality, he has absolutely no intention of changing.

I think you're exactly right. Remember on Tuesday night, Seacrest floated the possibility of Taylor dying his hair--the audience replied with a LOUD unanimous NOOOO!

And this photo is just stupid:

He looks older with dyed hair than he does with the gray, not to mention ridiculous.
