Maybe Taylor could do a verison of Patsy Cline's classic "Crazy"

I know it's not 50's, but after hearing the song again yesterday, I was thinking how interesting it would be to hear Taylor do "American Pie" by Don McLean.

As far as underdogs go, I think Texasflower would be rooting for Bucky. He's a likable guy and she'd probably find something attractive about him :) And I can see her joining Taylor's "Soul Patrol" too.

I miss her scoldings!

So do I. She had a real talent for it :) She could correct you without insulting you ... Always sweet.

Sigh.

Of the top-6 girls, I'd certainly prefer a Katherine, or even Melissa -- all the right curves in all the right places.

Yup!

She's a power singer, that's what they do. Where people get into trouble is when they go outside their strengths. Would you take Ace seriosly if he tried to Rock out? Taylor did "Easy" by the Commodores and that was his worst effort.

She holds the stage better than any other woman up there.

But the first time I really believed in Carrie last year was when she did Heart's "Alone". I think you have to go outside your stengths once in a while in order to win the competition. Likewise Bo's broadway night song was the first time I thought he actually had a decent voice, and wasn't just all "performance".

To anyone of you who are fans of Taylor Hicks out there.

Just wanted to share a rare interview with everyone….

Here is an interview with SEAN HICKS, Taylor’s Younger brother who is himself a jazz musician but unlike Taylor prefers to be practical and is at George Tech studying to become an engineer. It also shows Taylor’s mom and dad and his bandmates and friends who are all together watching his performances every Tuesday :

But, Carrie's style of singing allowed her to do that Heart song. She is a country singer but she does not twang it up which allows that to happen.

Bo's biggest moments were when he sang the Time in a Bottle tune as well as going archapella. That was flat our ballsey.

Exactly what I thought. Even if it wasn't them I enjoy thinking it was so much that I don't want to be corrected.

Maybe Manilow can get him going. Now there's a guy with plenty of fire. And I don't mean the flaming kind. Star quality, whether you like him or not. He has that inner light, drive, that makes every note he sings seem important.

I completely agree with that. Katherine should take a lesson or two.

Don't you worry about thing. Kevin isn't going to win and we all know that. As long as he out performs othes by my likings regarding his cong choice and his ability, I will still vote for him. One we lose a few more, it will be necessary for me to vote for who I think will win. Just as last year Tammy and I voted for Scott and Anthony a lot even though our first choices were for Carrie. And look we didn't hurt a thing did we? Carrie won.

I suppose we could have a lively debate over whom TexasFlower would be backing this year. I think she would LOVE Taylor Hicks. And Mandisa.

Oh, no doubt about it. I think she would love Taylor and Mandisa, too, but as I pointed out already and will repost here again:

She doing Broadway now. I never watched American Idol at all ever till she came on (she lives near here).

Yes, I know. Isn't that great! I wanted her to win so much. :)

This article ( and almost everyone ) says NO. Anyone who even
suggests it should be tarred and feathered.

Grey-haired Idol not the norm

Fri, March 17, 2006

By JUDY MONCHUK, CP

CALGARY -- In an entertainment universe where Botox rules and youth
is the ultimate goal, the mere suggestion of a grey-haired American
Idol seems like a joke.

But Taylor Hicks, the effusive, harmonica-playing blues singer from
Alabama, who looks older than his 29 years, has become an unlikely
focus on the singing contest.

Even tweens, the show's target audience, applaud his individuality
and unwillingness to revamp his image -- even if the soulful singer
isn't their choice among the top 12 finalists.

"It's kind of brave of him," says Oliver, a Grade 7 pupil at the
Calgary girls school, where all grades study and discuss the
importance of being comfortable in their own skin.

"It's risky being out there with a different sort of beauty."

Oliver and classmates were horrified by a suggestion from Idol host
Ryan Seacrest that Hicks, who started going grey at 15, is being
pressured by the show's hairstylist to change his hair colour.

"He'd be giving in. It would be like he thought he wasn't good
enough," said Jennifer, another pupil.

Hicks has become a hot topic online thanks to his unusual image,
which is decidedly different from that of the average pop star.
After all, two of the show's most successful winners -- Carrie
Underwood and Kelly Clarkson -- have cover-girl looks to go along
with beautiful voices.

A series of Hicks fansites have popped up on the Internet, including
www.greycharles.com -- a nod to both his hair and his Ray Charles-
influenced sound. Many include debates on whether he should cover
the grey, which even Hicks says has become his "beacon" and set him
apart from the other finalists.

In fact, "grey-haired idol" was Yahoo!'s top-searched buzz item
after one of the Idol shows this month.

Hairstylist Patrick Trudeau, who clips locks at the Ginger Group,
Calgary's trendiest salon, says Hicks would be crazy to cave in to
pressure for a makeover.

"I love the fact that he's chosen to be natural," says Trudeau, who
began going grey himself at 16. "A lot of people would say he's
chosen to be plain, but in today's culture, with everybody colouring
their hair, for him to choose to be natural makes him more of an
individual."

It's doubtful his infectious smile or jerky dance moves will spawn a
trend of young Hicksters opting against covering up the first
indications of a salt-and-pepper look.

But his refusal to change has made Hicks easier to identify and
that's a good thing in a competition, says Arlene Oak, who teaches
the connection between culture and appearance in the University of
Alberta's human ecology department.

"It's a way in which he stands out and that's positive in this
environment," said Oak. "He's drawing attention to himself by being
himself."

Still, no one believes a female contestant would have made it this
far with grey hair.

"They'd get the image of a grandma," said Oliver.

I think she might've liked Ace also, and would NOT have liked seeing him, or any other contestant, trashed.

Including Kevin. :) If you recall, last year she refrained from saying things about Bo, till people got so nasty about Scott. She had wished that people would have treated him better.

And while we are at it. She would probably be mortified at all those bashing Mandisa because of her weight, considering that Tammy had gone in for gastric bypass. Think about that for a moment, all of you that slam Mandisa for her appearance.

Maybe Mandisa should put her life at risk, too, just so she can please YOUR idea of what she should look like.
