If it's Barry Manilow next time, Kevin may make it through another week. I thought he did a decent job singing "Vincent", and Manilow has some songs that should work fairly well with respect to tempo and vocal range for Covais.

Elliot SHOULD shine, but my expectations for him are falling because he seems to have trouble injecting much life into a song.

Lisa and Katherine should be okay with Manilow.

Mandisa can probably find a Manilow song to belt.

The others could have problems.

Katharine is mechanical, robotic. She sings to herself. For proof, all one needs to do is compare her beautifully sung, but dull performances to Taylor's.

I totally agree with you on this. I don't get her appeal at all. She's missing something.

bookmarked for future use. Didn't realize this thread existed.

Just for the record - can't stand Kevin or Kellie. I must mute the tv when they sing.

Here's his story:

He has never performed in front of people like other contestants have. He is singing and doing his thing on pure natural talent and for someone with 90% deafness in one ear he has great pitch. With time he will likely turn out to be a great vocalist and I am really glad for him because he is a modest man who everyone just seems to like. The songs that he has picked have been fairly easy listening although that jazz song he did was pretty impressive considering how hard it is to do jazz. However, Manilow is not going to allow him to break out of the ballad trap.

Look, it really just comes down to what people want. If you like rock then you vote Chris. You want country, vote Pickler. You want a 70's singer or you want someone who is a performer then vote Taylor. If you like power vocals from big Mama then go with Mandesa. People have their favorites and will vote accordingly.

LOL, and welcome to the insanity, for which there is no 12-step program!

Taylor cannot sing anywhere near as well as McPhee. But, he's a stage performer and she's a vocalist. She will do records and older audience stuff, he will light up clubs and have a loyal fan base.

If I was a young guy trying to set some mood to "hit it" I might look to him to help me close the deal. I could see him doing an easy song selection that went real nicely in the background.....

;-)

misterrob, thanks for the "insider" dope. I agree about Bucky...he seems genuinely nice and humble. And Ace has grown on me. He takes the criticism very well, and seems very close to his family. I wonder if his brother is his manager? The brother looked more upset than Ace last night when Ace was called out in the bottom three.

Well, I am probably the only one here who is a Barry Manilow fan. His songs are melodious and smooth, and should be a lot easier for the kids to sing than Wonder was.

People have questioned Ace's sexual preference and his style. Well, his girlfriend is a hottie and better than most people on this board will ever score up or ever could score up. The style thing is a different issue but you have to go with what you can do best at. I don't find it compelling but I can't say that I am impressed with hillbillies like Toby Keith or Kenny Chesney either.

I'm not 100% certain that it will be Manilow songs now. They are going to Vegas and he is supposed to be doing something with them. He has a 50's cover album so that might be it. If that's the case then the options open up greatly. I'll see what else I can dig up.

No, not Barely Maneough/Farry Banananose...

Say it isn't so. While I love his music, these particular contestants will trash his songs, even worse than they did to Stevie's....ugh...

Not true. While some may vote this way, I don't think that's how it works necessarily. I, for one, don't like country, but I voted for Carrie last year all the way because I liked her singing and her presentation on stage. I guess I go for who sounds/sings the best, versus the genre they sing.
