It was a rather mediocre episode as far as South Park goes. It came nowhere near the excellence of "Tolerance Death Camp" "Hippies Must Die!" and "Santa Bombs Baghdad"

It's funny how they can't recall any other episode where a Catholic doctrine is analyzed. Actually the episode where Father Maxey discovers the church is run by a giant spider was much more offensive than the "bleeding statue" episode. But then, I'm just a Jew.

There's a jewish comedian that quips, "What's all this about Jews and gold? Would I be doing stand-up if I was that rich? And where do we hide it? In the basement of the synagogue? (Giving tour of synagogue basement to goyim) And this is our storehouse of gold...don't touch."

Yup. You nailed it. I watched it with my family (half Lutheran, half Catholic) and everyone thought it was funny, no one was offended. I mean really, Jesus is in many episodes as a failed TV show host.

It's hard to be a Jew on Christmas.
My friends won't let me join in any games.
And I can't sing Christmas songs,
or decorate a Christmas tree,
or leave water out for Rudolph
cause there's something wrong with me.
My people don't believe in
Jesus Christ's divinity.
I'm a Jew, a lonely Jew,
on Christmas.
Hannakah is nice, but why is it that
Santa passes over my house every year?
And instead of eating ham, I have to eat kosher latke.
Instead of "Silent Night", I'm singing
"hu, hach, do hachvi.".
And what the @#$% is up with lighting
all these @#$%ing candles, tell me please.
I'm a Jew, a lonely Jew-
Id be Merry, but Im Hebrew --
On Christmas. :)

I posted this because it's a new development. From the response here, I'm guessing that most folks have moved on.

From the response here, I'm guessing that most folks have moved on.
Or they saw it and realized the message they were trying to get across. I think most people would be (rightfully) upset if you just described a few key parts of the episode, but once they saw it, they would understand that appearances are deceiving.

I can't help but contrast this with that of NBC and the producers of
Law and Order with the episode about the Puerto Rican Day rioting, which they have promised will
never, ever, ever see the light of day again. It's not even allowed to rerun on TNT, and it likely will never be on any DVD.

Can I start by saying, how can anyone who hasn't seen the episode truly judge what the message of the episode is?
Nope, they can't judge it either way unless they have an opinion on South Park in general, then they are only giving their opinion of the show in general, be it a negative one or a positive one.
