Sardina is home to an immense population of mysterious prehistoric stone towers called "nuraghi." (Singular form is "nuraghe.") Over 7,000 of these remarkable dry-stone edifices exist -- a concentration of monumental stone architecture unparalleled in Europe... Over 3,000 years old, the nuraghi have withstood the depredations of weather and later humans by virtue of their excellent design and construction.

They appear to be small castles, nothing more, but they are mightily made, and it reminds me somehow of Mycenaean construction.

An outfit I know has great hikin/walking tours to Sardinia and Corsica. $4595 for 11 days, not including air fare to Europe. If I were rich I'd go and take all of you.

Hike tease! ;') We should all become travel agents. Imagine, $4600 to fly someone to a rustic island so they can spend 9 days hiking and ten nights sleeping...

I was in Sardinia in '85. It was beautiful. We set up a commo shot in an old abandoned pillbox from WW2. One of the better "camping" trips I've ever been on.

"...We should all become travel agents..."

Now, you may be on to something there. A "Gods-Graves-Glyphs" tour of the standing stones of Western Europe...from Sardinia to Orkney...I could really go for that, especially if I could do it at cost. You & me & Blam & a couple of Viking Kitties.
