Beatles 'Pepper' best albums list
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | January 8, 2006 | DAVE TIANEN

Perhaps the first thing that leaps out is that it's a very Beatle-centric list. "Sgt. Pepper" is No. 1 as it often is in such lists, but two of the top three albums are by the Beatles, three of the first five and four of the first 10.

The first 10 are:

1) "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles 2) "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys 3) "Revolver" by the Beatles 4) "Highway 61 Revisited" by Bob Dylan 5) "Rubber Soul" by the Beatles 6) "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye 7) "Exile on Main Street" by the Rolling Stones 8) "London Calling" by the Clash 9) "Blonde on Blonde" by Bob Dylan 10) "The Beatles" (The White Album) by the Beatles

Where's the Motorhead on this list? You can't have a best album list without a little Lemme.

Time for all the fuddy-duddys to come out and talk about how the Beatles weren't all that good.

I went and saw Robert Earl Keen a couple of months ago. During one song he and his band went off on a wild, rocking jam. They were acting silly and getting a bit electric (he's pretty country, usually) and when the dust settled he looked around the stage and chortled "That was what my dear old Daddy thought The Beatles sounded like!" I laughed so hard I almost spilt my beer.

And then "Kashmir" erroneously is played.

Sandanista is garbage, no argument from me. I love the first three albums, sans the politics. Safe European Home,Rudie Can't Fail,Spainish Bombs,Wrong Em Boyo,Death or Glory.....many others. As a fired up teen that stuff rang true, still gets me fired up when I hear it.
The Cars first album is excellent, thats another one I remember buying on LP....AC/DC is a blast too.
Zeppelin is awesome, what can you say?
I'm a huge Dylan fan, I have hundreds of bootlegs....

I have a Columbus (OH) radio station list of the all time top 500 albums and although U2 has ten listings, there are none from either the Beatles or Beach Boys, go figure.

"Not enough so...Benny Goodman and Glen Miller beat the whole bunch...."

You know, to compare and contrast Benny Goodman and Paul McCartney might constitute a good essay exam for thoughtful students of 20th Century popular culture.

I admire them both.

How about Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed which, IMHO, are the Stones best albumns.

Wow, do they play music from the 60's or is it an alternative station?

My own personal favorite albums are: 1. "Then Play On" by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac 2. "Quicksilver" by Quicksilver Messenger Service and 3. "Sun Secrets" by the Eric Burdon Band.

I know, most people have never heard of at least two of them. But I don't care, I like'm anyway.

I screwed up my record player with the White Album, you know, trying to play songs backwards. LOL! (it's true)

Amazing! Around here the #1 record (out of 885) was Abbey Road, with Pepper coming in second. And Abbey Road isn't even on this list's top ten! Of course, Dark Side of the Moon isn't on this list's top ten either, so how much credibility could this list possibly have? (Answer: It's even more of a joke than these lists usually are.)

".....but Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus ahead of all of them."

Columbus landed in 1492.

And Lowell George died in 1493, or soon thereafter?

Man, does the nursing home know that we're still up at this hour?

Imo, the four albums the Stones released between '68 and '72 was the best run of any in the history of the genre: Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St. ....unparalleled.

You're right of course.

Dark Side of the Moon rules.

Yeah, Led Zepplin was first and Pat Banatar all over the place, couple stones, Cheap Trick, Police, etc. they seem to have it all covered otherwise.

Haven't heard Priest do it, but I'll check it out. Great song. I'm sure they do it justice.
