Beatles 'Pepper' best albums list
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | January 8, 2006 | DAVE TIANEN

Posted on 01/09/2006 6:39:28 PM PST by ConservativeStatement

Perhaps the first thing that leaps out is that it's a very Beatle-centric list. "Sgt. Pepper" is No. 1 as it often is in such lists, but two of the top three albums are by the Beatles, three of the first five and four of the first 10.

The first 10 are:

1) "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles 2) "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys 3) "Revolver" by the Beatles 4) "Highway 61 Revisited" by Bob Dylan 5) "Rubber Soul" by the Beatles 6) "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye 7) "Exile on Main Street" by the Rolling Stones 8) "London Calling" by the Clash 9) "Blonde on Blonde" by Bob Dylan 10) "The Beatles" (The White Album) by the Beatles

Al left the band in 1994 so that not a "real" look at them.
Terry Adams , the keyboard player is incredible,
Joey Spampinato- bass player- off the charts.
When Keith Richards was choosing the band for Chuck Berry Tribute "Hail Hail Rock'nRoll, he said there is only one choice--Joey!
Tommy Ardolino is a monster on drums
When Al was there they were MIND BLOWING!!!

I have 2 of their LP's RC Cola and a Moonpie & the self titled one. I liked the song "get that gasoline" when it came out around the time of the very first gas shortage. The single is rather different than the LP version. The single is actually better.

There too Quirky for me. My tastes are Garage, Blues, Rockabilly and early English R&B.

NRBQ The Best Kept Secret In Rock'n Roll
NRBQ are the only live people to be ever on the Simpsons...they did an episode and on the "outro" were filmed playing the theme song!
These guys are a TREASURE!!! FReepmail me, I'm serious, It would be a pleasure to turn you on to this "secret". LOL

One of my favorite albums is

Ten Years After "A space in time"

My first concert I ever went to was

Humble Pie.

That should bring some memories back to a few old'er guys.

:)

"A Hard Day's Night" ------ greatest album ever made! Bar none. And I'm a hard core Beatles fan too.
Every song on this album is a hit, every single one of 'em! (excepting perhaps the last song "I'll Be Back"), but us Beatles fans have a curious credo that says: 'Even the weakest of the Fabs tunes are better than most bands at their strongest!' ... OK, perhaps a bit provocatively arrogant there, but you know what I mean :)"

Obviously I pretty much agree. In fact, I even like "I'll Be Back" quite a lot. And it certainly is a nice way to end an album.

A Hard Day's Night has eight, possibly nine, songs that could have been released as singles that would have surely reached number one.

That cannot be said about any other album that has ever been produced, as far as I know.

BTW, as you surely know, the song most mavens feel is the weakest in the Beatle canon is their cover of "Mr. Moonlight." But I even like that.

Dark Side of the Moon rules.

Ahhh, that LP in those headphones late at night with no interruptions is one of life little great remberances.

In later years, the boys themselves pretty much took all the credit for the sound, but for a single production, I still don't think there is anyone touching Alan Parsons on this one. I know I might get flamed by the George Martin and Brian Wilson junkies on that, but I think this was the Mona Lisa.

I forgot another great Stones shoot off from that period. Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Jajouka. It's Morrocan stuff and a little different. But entrancing. Some of his last work before his death, but he still shows why he added all the right creative touches on selected Stones tracks.

But then Keith took over completely and nailed grunge brit pop to the t, playing in alternate tunings etc, for the first time on those other albums we discussed along with the help of Mick Taylor, Ry Cooder, and even Gram Parsons sitting in on some sessions. They wouldn't have had any of that country rock twang they had without Gram.

A real sleeper, not top 10, but definitely in the top 100.

Remember Schenker's brother in UFO and some of their music? As far as the genre goes, that was some good playing.
