White Castle Patron Helps Catch Robbery Suspect

Police Expect To Honor Man With Award

POSTED: 8:52 am EST January 9, 2006

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. -- A patron at a White Castle restaurant in Dearborn Heights is expected to be honored by police for his action during a robbery early Sunday morning.

Police said a 16-year-old Garden City boy armed with a machete is accused of robbing a White Castle restaurant on Ford and Inkster roads at about 2:45 a.m. University of Michigan student Peter Kim and his girlfriend walked in on the robbery, and Kim sprang into action, Local 4 reported.

"At first, I thought ... 'This can't be real. Is this a movie? Is this a joke?'" said Kim. "Who robs places with a machete?"

The suspect fled the scene, and Kim chased him across Ford Road and through a neighborhood, Local 4 reported.

"My parents own their own business and I wouldn't want that to happen to them, or anybody else in the community," said Kim.

Kim, a former high school wrestler, apprehended the suspect, took away his machete and held him until police arrived seconds later, Local 4 reported.

"He had nothing to say to me," said Kim, about the suspect.

Police said the 16-year-old in custody has a police record in the community. He was transported to Wayne County juvenile detention.

Kim said he is an Eagle Scout, and "the slogan is 'Do a good turn daily.' So I guess that was my good turn daily."

Police expect to honor Kim with an award for his actions, Local 4 reported.

Not exactly what Scouts encourage for doing a Good Turn but hey! That's some Eagle Scout.

I didn't know you had Murder Burgers in Michigan.

White Castle started in Kansas. From their website...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us Hmm… What can $700 get you? Well in 1921 with $700 of borrowed money, the first White Castle opens in Wichita, Kansas, offering hamburgers at the unbelievable price of $.05 a piece.

Got a craving for some sliders.

When my sons were 14 and 15 years old respectively, we would stop at White Castle while traveling and I would order 40 of them. I ate 6-8 of them and they ate the rest, Sometimes I would have to go back and order 10 or so more.

Click my screen name and scroll down a little - they are big boys.

They were good, had them in Pennsylvania when I was growing up. When I moved to Georgia found Krystal, same type burger. Bag of 25 might fill you up.

Fine strappin lads.

Well we had our first fresh from the grill white castles not too long ago.. at least in my adult life.. may have had some when really young before they really contracted...

I put down a good 6 or 8 of em... Jr put a hurtin on as well. Wife used to get in Jersey all the time when she would visit her family, so they were a tradition for her.

I believe our introduction was in Louisville Ky, when on a trip.
