Texas junior quarterback Vince Young plans to enter the NFL draft and forgo his final year of college, a close family friend said today. Young plans to make the announcement this afternoon at a press conference in Austin.
"He has the blessing of God, the pastor and his family," said Yolanda Lezine, Young's godmother and the family media's spokeswoman. "It's his decision. Everybody is going to support him a 110 percent."
Young capped off his career Wednesday night, rallying the Longhorns from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat two-time defending national champion Southern California, 41-38, in the Rose Bowl.
The Madison product will hire Bus Cook as his agent. Cook is also the agent for Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, Young's mentor, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

This probably means the Houston Texans have a used Carr for sale and will draft Vince Young in the first round.
Well, drat....I was hoping he would resist the temptation, play his Senior year and pick up the Heisman.
And as valuable as he is to the NFL now...one more year would make him MORE so...barring injury, of course.
Houston will go ape to have him.
Good luck, Vince.
The Texans appear to be interested in shrubbery. Mainly a Bush.
Matt Leinart's hopes of avoiding being drafted by the Saints have just increased.
That all changed with the Rose Bowl. Now they want the hometown boy. Texas beats USC again.
I've got a hunch that Leinart may be a bust in the NFL along the lines of Ryan Leaf. He benefitted from a great supporting cast at SC. But there are big-time flaws in his game.
Young's value in the NFL is most likely at it's peak right now. Playing another year in college would just open up the possibility of his value slipping.
Leinhart is a good example. If he had went pro last year he would have been the #1 pick and would have been paid as a #1. By staying in college, he cost himself a year of salary plus any money lost for not being a #1 pick this year.
As far as picking up the heisman, that used to be a huge reward, but it's really not anymore. It certainly doesn't add any value at all to a player when NFL teams look at a him.
If a player is predicted to go in the top 10 or so, they should always turn pro. The NFL has a service that informs underclassmen on what their probably draft position will be. That prevents players from being screwed my incompetent agents.
Don't worry Matt Leinart is going to do OK. Many of us wish we had his problems.
A move he probably had to make.
Palmer was just ahead of the talent that Leinart played with at USC. To me Palmer wasn't nearly as hyped coming out of college as he should have been. He's now creating his own hype.
Palmer is ten times better than Leinart. A lot of SC insiders were actually hoping Leinart would have turned pro last year, since they think the backup qb Booty is even better than Leinart.
Like I said, Leinart has got "Ryan Leaf" written all over him.
This column sums it up.

Whatever Houston does now, it will be wrong.
Doing "ok" is relative. By staying in school he cost himself a lot of money. When a certain career only has an average span of about 4 to 10 years, then making all the money you can means a whole heck of a lot.
BTW, who said that he had "problems". By your logic, when any pro athlete makes any mistake at all, we should never discuss it because "many us of wish he had his problems."
Also, by your logic, we shouldn't mention that Ricky Williams or Dante Culpepper made some mistake because "many of us wish he had their problems."
Heck, let's not even discuss John Kerry because even though he lost the election, he still has more fame, power and wealth than most of us could ever hope to attain.
Why are all of you USC guys so sensitive?
I haven't seen very much of Cassel but he's impressed me so far.
Is he one of the Lousiana Bootys and brother of Josh Booty? If so, then USC should be careful. Same with the California Clausens.
I bet Leinart went to Young after the game and told him, "Don't make the same mistake I made."
Leinart staying an extra year has hurt Booty's chances of EVER starting at USC, as redshirt Freshman Mark Sanchez is even better than him.
Is Sanchez projected to be the starting QB next year? I don't know so I'm just asking.
Also, what are your thoughts on Leinart staying in college last year?
