I guess we're guilty of "cocooning" our children, in that we don't have cable, don't watch broadcast TV, and are very selective about our video choices.

Actually, at times I'd like to opt for the "lock them in a sensory deprivation chamber until they're age 30" strategy.

In home videos made in the final weeks before their deadly attack on Columbine High School, two teen-age gunmen said they hoped to kill hundreds in the assault and speculated about which Hollywood director might make a movie about it, Time magazine reports....

While the videos reinforce the idea that Harris and Klebold were motivated in part by a desire for what they saw as revenge, they also indicate that the two wanted notoriety.

"Directors will be fighting over this story," Time quotes Klebold as saying in one video. He and Harris then discussed which director could be trusted with the script, mentioning Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino, the report said.

The killers made their final tape on the morning of the massacre, Time reports.

I think the media influences the kids that already have weak parenting and thus fall into whatever crap they pick up. Then that gets carried off to school and other child socializing areas. Sometimes I wonder what the Nation would be like if MTV had never started showing Rap and stayed a Rock based programming? But then the poor business model of the music industry probably led things downhill more so then the actually content of what was produced.

I'm beginning to view not having cable tv as a virtue. Less crap to waste your time watching, and you can always get your occasional fill when you're at a friend's house where they do have it.
