football, fake punt (bowl)........... ping
Bell Belicheck would do it. Heck, he broke out the "drop kick" in the game against Miami last week, and that hasn't been used since 1941!
I wouldn't be surprised to see him do it in the playoffs.
Schottenheimer. /major sarcasm
none that i'm aware ... too many hassles to encounter if they lose the game ... it is more honorable to lose with the idiotic (and oxymoronically termed) "prevent defense"
I dunno Cower decided to try an onside kick to start a half, after publicy announcing he might do it in the press the week before....
Perhaps not the brightest move, but you could definately say it was ballsy.
I was at the Cowboys/Chargers game in 1980. Tom Landry called not one, but THREE fake punts that night. Danny White was great in those three fakes. Helped Dallas win the game.
That was an incredible game. Talk about a roller coaster ride!
fake punt, GUTS, (maybe) NUTS ....... football ping!
Always loved coaches who went for it on 4th down a lot and also used faked field goals and punts. Really keeps you as a fan on your toes. Just "playing the field position game" is boring to watch.
My idea for a new rule - a field goal is worth less points the closer it is. So, for example, a field goal from 20 to 30 yards is only worth 1 point, 31 to 40 yards is worth 2 points and 40+ years is worth 3 points. This make coaches go for it more in the Red Zone, rather can kicking field goals.
Of course, this rule will be suspended within the last 5 minutes of each half and overtime, since simply scoring 3 points at the end may be all that is necessary as opposed to a touchdown.
Urban Meyer, Florida's head coach, made the same call late in the Outback Bowl against Iowa on fourth down. The Gators barely squeaked out a first down, but it was enough for them to retain posession and bleed precious time off the clock. It was very demoralizing to the Hawkeyes.
The Lions coach wouldn't do it, but the players are such ****ups that something like this could easily happen. Except that the ball carrier would be crushed, and probably fumble, and the other team would recover the fumble, maybe even run it back for a TD.
Me? Bitter? ;')
