football, fake punt (bowl)........... ping
Slaton broke the Sugar Bowl record of 202 yards set by Pittsburgh's Tony Dorsett against Georgia in 1977. (I was at that game!) Slaton's 1,128 rushing yards this season were the second highest for a freshman at West Virginia, behind Avon Cobourne's 1,138 in 1999.
Bill Parcells would call that in a heartbeat...The "Tuna" is known for those sort of calls.
That was an awesome game -- couldn't believe the fake punt -- I thought he had punted it when all the WV players went running down the field -- best fake I think I have ever seen.
NFL coaches doing a fake punt like that? Jimmy Johnson, the Cowboys former head coach or Barry Switzer another former coach of the Cowboys would probably do something like that but not many would.
I thought that call was great.
I remember our H.S. football team faking a field goal and scoring a touchdown. We won that game. It was against one of our city rivals that we had never beaten before. Almost went undeafted that year. The good ol days.
