1. I've been a member since 2001, but I haven't actively engaged in the forums, I've just been an appreciative reader of the wit and wisdom here. I am certainly not a troll, and I've also got long standing credentials on several conservative boards on EZboard. I'll provide those, if you want.
2. I never "actively" solicited anyone to sign up, I've just been a booster of the program, since I found the thread, and signed up myself, a little over a week ago. I've also taken to collecting the available links, and making them readily available, so users can readily access what I know about the program. I haven't run across any "negative" aspects of the program, except for some potential heat issues with overclocked processors. If you know of any articles that contradict those links that I've posted, let me know, and I'll add them to the list.
Certainly, being a computer/IT professional, if there are any negative aspects of the Stanford program, I would be most interested in knowing about them, as I am ultimately responsible for the security and safety of the systems entrusted to me.
3. I did my "reading", and discovered, what others have said is true, that it's for a worthwhile cause, and when major tech companies like IBM, Compaq, Cisco, Nortel, Apple, and others, support and endorse it, there is little security risk. You're more at risk by casual browsing, than you are by the Stanford Client.
4. My use of the proposed team name "Grumpy old conservatives", was self-denigrating, because I am one.
Unfortunately, I also called JR a "fuddy-duddy", in that same post, and for that I apologize, but in the course of the thread development, it appeared that any consideration of the folders was dismissed out of hand, and if you do research, you'll find that many, if not a large majority, of the folders are long term members.
The only thing I will post in my defense, it that it was blatantly insulting, and I realize that it's no excuse for my retaliation, to be compared to a Nigerian Widow. Hence, my response, and subsequently, my apology.
5. Yes. You are certainly correct, in that you had to make sure that one encouraging the folders are trolls.
6. As for the encouraging the team on, to show up DU and KOS, well yes. I look at their use of terms like "how can these morons expect to compete with us", and "where did these idiots find this program out" to be offensive, but at the same time, amusing, and challenging. We, and this includes me "fuddy duddies", do know our computers, we're tweaking the hell out of ours to maximize performance, and we're going to make a big impact on this program, by going to the top 100, if not higher.
If you think I'm childish, for wanting to prove to a bunch of crackpot liberals, that we can transcend political differences, in a soundly scientific, safe, and worthy cause, then yes, I'm childish. I take great pride in doing my profession, and that is driving a large network of computers, to accomplish good, whether it be helping educate children during the day, and unraveling the mystery of mutant proteins at night.
Again, my sincer apologies to you, and to the administration of the board for my behavior last night. It was unexcusable.
In the meantime, to the members of team 36120, I'm still folding, I'm adding more systems, and we're still heading for the top 100, even though we do not have, nor expect to receive, any official sanction.
I'm willing to go along with whatever consensus is taken about the name change, Both the "vast right wing conspiracy", and "Fold 1 for the Gipper" seem like good choices to me.
Glad to hear your still folding, although I'm sure some libs arn't, you alone have more processors going than all of the DU team. ;)
I'm glad that you're sticking with us. I'm glad that we're beating the stuffing out of Kos and DU. Heh heh!
Kudos to you, Klutz!

Thanks for the info .. and the rational you today ... nice to have you back ...

Both my mom and Drill Sergeant warned me about this.
It appears we still need a name. Anybody hear from Tex? He posted a few hours ago and then nothing. Unless I'm missing his posts....
I intend to surf your wake as long as you leave one. GOC sounds like a good name.
