~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Poetry Thread XXIV~
January 2, 2006 | bentfeather/Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

"I'm knitting up tons of 100% wool and making some gorgeous purses . . . apparently they're all the rage . . . I'm hoping to capitalize on the fad, for after all . . . I do believe in capitalism."

Purses, really? I'm looking for a gift for my lady, tell me more.

"I Can't Make You Love Me"

This is a wonderful poem, layers of images intertwined, soft and subtle, sweet and bittersweet, aching with such a need, the image that comes to mind is hand raised, reaching but not touching.

This is a keeper!!!

(Oh to have a woman write something like this for a lug like me!)

Thank You, Trike.

It means so much to me when you comment.

Bonnie Raitt sings a song titled, "I Can't Make You Love Me"

So I took those fews words and wrote from there.

Surrender Not

She sits in shadowed grace,
soft tears caressing her cheeks.
Sad the cast of her oft merry face,
as stillness enfolds her as she seeks.

Answers to questions she wishes to bypass,
yet they come calling, cruel visitors this night.
Empty hours until an empty dawn for this lass,
as heartbreak serves hard portions that bite.

Yet the morrow brings new paths to find,
new chances to find the lifting road and smiles.
Seek them though they seem like dreary miles,
and set all cares together, and in hope do bind.

Love is a strange and resilient thing to be sure,
finding ways to the light, and to the heart.
If but you seek them, they will do their part,
and emptiness will no longer be a bitter burr.

Fill a sheet of paper with all your pains,
and another with all you needs so dear.
toss the hurtful scrap into the fire, your bane,
pin up your dreams, and follow them without a tear.

She sits in shared shadowed grace,
his soft hands caressing her cheeks.
Glad the cast of her oft merry face,
as joy enfolds her, finding what she seeks.

Poem to my husband

Come my love,
Let us intertwine our fingers and sit beside the fire
On this day to share love’s memory,
You and I,
And I will rest my head upon your shoulder,
And we will talk of this and that,
And think of how good it is,
Being with each other.

Come my love,
You with the gentle heart and soft voice,
Who has taught me so much about the reality of love -.
The hot, entrancing passion of falling in love,
The everyday trimming wisteria bushes in the spring,
Me baking bread, just to surprise you,
You bringing home a rose, unexpected,
Sharing doing the dishes,
Folding the clothes,
Knitting socks,
Waiting with you at the doctors,
Buying tools to finish a project.

Love is waking up in the middle of the night to find you a heating pad,
Love is waking up from a post surgery sleep to find you there with soup bowl in hand, ready to feed me,
Love is waking up and feeling your hand on my thigh tracing lazy circles,
Love is waking up to the alarm to get you to work on time.

So many things braided together make up our love -
Two lived pledged together
Interwoven into one,
In commitment
In care.
In trust.

Thought of the Day

it was Henry Ward Beecher who said, "Every
charitable act is a stepping stone toward heaven."

This is Tuesday, Feb. 14, the 45th day of 2006 with 320 to
follow. This is Valentine's Day. The moon is waning. The morning
stars are Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto and Venus. The evening stars
are Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Mercury.

St. Paul at his most poetic (and very appropriate for today):

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers,
and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith,
so as to remove mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have,
and if I deliver my body to be burned,
but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind;
Love is not jealous or boastful;
it is not arrogant or rude.
Love does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrong,
but rejoices in the right.
Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.
Love never ends.
