'Rumor' fades justs as it starts; Troubled Warner pic sinks at B.O. (Hollywarped bomb by Rob Reiner)

The "Rumor" mill grinds on. With Warner's romantic comedy "Rumor Has It..." taking in just $7 million in its opening frame, second-guessing quickly ramped up. Not that Warners execs should have been surprised: Tracking data on the project -- which Rob Reiner took over directing just 10 days into shooting when tyro helmer Ted Griffin was fired -- showed the pic wasn't likely to wow.

Griffin, who penned the screenplay, might be glad he got the boot. Not so happy might be Reiner-- who hasn't seen a hit in some time, and who lately has been preoccupied by politics and his universal preschool initiative -- and Section Eight which produced the pic for Warners.

Critics lambasted Reiner for applying a shallow gloss to what was, at its heart, a quirky, indie-like script. One even quipped that Reiner directed "between naps." But some blame might rightly rest with Griffin, who decided to give the pic a mainstream feel in casting Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Costner and Shirley MacLaine.

Mark Ruffalo was the only "indie" guy in the bunch. You'd never guess from the utterly mainstream marketing and poster that the film picks up where "The Graduate" left off. Instead, you might think Aniston had landed a new post-"Friends" TV show.

Pic was to be released last April, but was pushed to December because it wasn't ready. But in opting for a Christmas Day berth as counterprogramming, Warners put the film into competition with seven other wide releases. With that kind of jostling, it's no wonder this "Rumor" never got started.

"Citizen Kane" the most over-rated movie EVER.

What..I am shocked..good thing Orson Welles is not alive to read that..he might have a hard time getting out of bed..which I believe he had every day anyway..any movie that resembles the life newspaper mogul Hearst is automatically a classic.."Rosebud uhhhhhh"......

I guess I'm a mean person too. When one of my friends got busted for a fake I.D. we gave him hell for it too. Maybe they shouldn't have done it because they didn't know her, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't have been kind of funny.

I can't believe we're actually having this debate!!! LOL!!

Really!

That Rob Reiner is a goofy Hollywood liberal is indisputable. That he has some made bad movies is also indisputable. He's also made some great movies, and is a very successful and prolific producer. He also managed to step out of the shadow of a famous successful father and make his own mark. Not an easy thing to do in Hollywood.

At any rate, he's done more with his life than spew venom on the internet regarding subjects about which he knows nothing, seemingly the only contribution certain bitter harpies on the web can muster.

Now I am going to go running and then go see a movie.

:)

If they want to make The Movies "Ground Zero" for political wars, they are going to seriously damage their industry, and their own careers.

Just don't think she will ever be a big star. Have seen a number of her films. Nice person, but nothing special.

She's already saved the lives of two children and will give them opportunities they would never have had.

She doesn't strike me as being especially stable.

What's stable mean? She's stable enough to have a career, adopt children, have a relationship, learn to fly a plane, do work for the UN all the while have people follow her 24 hours a day trying to get pictures. In all honestly, I couldn't do all that, could you?

Aniston wants to have it both ways, to come off as 'Ms. Movie Star, I offend no one'...and as yet another potty-mouthed actress mouthing Liberal filth to garner more favor with Hollywood elite. She must think flyover country doesn't read Rolling Stone.

Do you think it is possible that one of the reason that so many of these movies are doing poorly is because of people who refuse to put more money into the pockets of these foul-mouthed freaks? I would like to think so, but maybe it is just wishful thinking.

This is my view on celebrities. They are intitled to their opinion 100%. If they hate the President, good on em. But if they decide to express that view, I will not give them one more penny. Now, if I already own the CD, I'm not going to destroy it, but no more new ones. It's my money and and I get to decide how it's spent.

Yep. They staked the film on her and it is going to bomb on her.

With a string of bombs, she'll be done before she even knew what hit her. Oh well, then she can finally get on with her life dream of being a mother.

Did she not say: "I wouldn't sleep with a married man. I have enough lovers. I don't need Brad."

So you're right. She's great mother material.

There is no evidence that she slept with him WHILE he was living with Aniston. They were legally separated. If that is a crime to you, than we can't prolong this ridiculous exchange.

So evidently she was lying.

You are correct. You can't argue with a real fan.

The promos on TV looked terrible, so I'll pass on this one when I take out free DVD's from the library.
