I nominate early Yes "Close to the Edge" might be one of the best albums ever......Genesis "Selling England by the Pound" and "Foxtrot".........King Crimson "Court of the Crimson King" to name a few, any others?

I prefer regressive rock. Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, AC/DC, etc.

Modern era (post 1995)? Sunny Day Real Estate, Coheed and Cambria, Lightning Bolt, Mogwai, and The Mars Volta are all worth checking out.

It's rock that's generally agreed upon by music snobs to be derivative moreso from classical music than blues and early rock. Although I don't know that there's a clearly defined explanation of what progressive rock is. Wikipedia might have one...

ELP, until they jumped the shark with Love Beach (or, arguably, Works II)

Prog Rock = long intricate songs 8-15 min., multiple musical changes, voice changes, alot of keyboards, mellotrons.....not your typical 4 min. radio songs.

I have seen her on public access TV, she's pretty damn good, I agree.

I'm not sure what you mean, because to me, Yes, Genesis and King Crimson are not progressive rock bands. It's even sort of questionable if the later iterations of Genesis were a rock band at all ... they were more like pop.

As for myself, I'd nominate The Pixies. Or, if you're lookiing for something of more recent vintage, The Flaming Lips.

She's very good, but I saw Máiréad Nesbitt with Celtic Woman in person, and she's awesome!

In the Modern Era, I would call Guided by Voices the best prog rock/indie band.

Nice. I've also developed an affection for Arcade Fire, despite their being Canadian, lol.

Including Art Rock in with Progressive Rock, I would give an honorable mention to the Alan Parsons Project and ELO.
