So how many $$$ did it bring in?
I don't see any $$$ figures!
What a bunch of liars. It's a flop and they KNOW it.
Ang Lee is going to have a bright future in Hollywood. Any actor or director willing to to a positive gay movie will have more doors open to them. Look at Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington after they did the Philidelphia Story (about a HIV gay man suing a law firm for firing him).
$6mm at a cost of $13mm. But now that all the pillowbiters in the major cities have seen it, it has opened in a mainstream theatre near you. The $6mm includes a holiday weekend, with one more to come. I guess we'll see how many teenaged girls can't wait to see their hearthrobs having anal sex with eachother.
Hi, nmh:
I just checked the grosses of "Bareback Mountain" at RottenTomatoes.com.
As of today (12/28/05) the film has grossed $7,888,312.
About doubling its gross with it being played in 216 additional theaters Coast to Coast just before the Christmas Weekend.
By straight Financial Standards, a FLOP! Perhaps NOT by Simple Hollywood Standards. Which are : If the film takes in more than it cost, it's a good film. A winner.
I'll have to do some more digging to find the film's total budget. I'm guessing, around $12,000,000. Especially considering how badly Ang Lee's last project, "The Hulk" bombed.
Even if Hollywood claims victory (And they will!) with this piece of dreck. It will just deepen the rift between it and Red and Fly-Over States. Making them and the Oscars even more irrelevant.
Jack.
Previews were enough for me.
Since people are no longer paying money to see this film the last gasp is to write about it, in hopes of building publicity and interest. No one wants to watch gays except other gays, it's that simple.
As of Monday 12/26/05 it is in 14th place and took in $7,888,312 for the 18 days it has been out. the-numbers.com
This is hardly a box office success. Its a box office flop.
The author of this article is "out to lunch" in the glowing report of the record-breaking crowds. Where are these crowds now?
