Graz (Austria) removes Schwarzenegger's name from stadium

VIENNA (Reuters) - Californian Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Austrian home town of Graz removed his name from the city's stadium over Christmas, amid anger over his decision to deny clemency to a death row inmate.

Austrian news agency APA showed the stadium's entrance displaying only its historical name, "Graz-Liebenau," and quoted an anonymous city official as saying Schwarzenegger's name had been removed overnight to avoid a public furor.

Graz city officials were not reachable on Monday, a holiday in Austria.

Left-wing politicians launched a petition drive in Graz to have the town rename the stadium because the Austrian-born governor allowed the execution of death-row inmate Stanley Tookie Williams this month.

Williams, an ex-leader of the Crips gang who supporters say had redeemed himself by campaigning against gang violence, was executed by lethal injection on December 13 after Schwarzenegger and the courts rejected all of his appeals.

While conservative mayor Siegfried Nagl opposed renaming the stadium, a city council majority of social democrats, communists and greens supported it. That prospect prompted Schwarzenegger to turn the tables and withdraw his name himself.

No mention that he was convicted of multiple cold-blooded murders...wonder why?

The left is squarely on the side of evil. They mourn the loss of murderers and dictators, while disparaging those who give their lives to further freedom.

I don't understand these folks. They seem to have more sympathy for unrepentant murderers than the victims of these murderers! I just don't get it!

Say what you will about The Ah-nold but the man has lived his life without being a menace to society. Compare that to this Tookie Williams thug, a man who blew away four people, who admitted to creating one of the most notorious street gangs in America, MAY have introduced crack cocaine to the inner cities, and whose behavior in prison showed that the man was anything BUT sorry for his deeds. But he wrote children's books and told them to stay away from gangs so that makes him a "decent" human being, fit to walk the streets again. I DON'T THINK SO!

So what if they take The Ah-nold's name off of a stadium! I may not like Ah-nold the RINO, but I enjoy The Terminator, the Kindergarden Cop and the clone on The 6th Day!

"Schwarzenegger Name Removed From Stadium"

Austrians evidently do odd things and live life differently to the rest of us. Crikey! And they've left "The Sound of Music" unpunished for several decades. A bizarre nation.

So they are in favor of the Crips? Great! We in NZ have more than our fair share of 'em. We'll gladly export 'em to jolly Austria if they want Crips so badly. As many as they want.

A bizarre nation, like I say. Their main exports are short wee guys with funny mustaches, or great big guys with balls. Politicians both, but only one I'd vote for.

Actually this article is misleading.

There was a movement to have his name removed but it did not necessarily accomplish its goal. Arnold himself told them to remove it since he didn't want it to interfer with his government duties. He was asked by the city in Austria to reconsider, since they didn't want to remove it.

Hence, this name removal may have been started by the left, it was actually completed by Arnold himself.
