My son in law's niece, and my niece, eating pickles on Christmas morning. They still managed to put away dinner. I couldn't get any of the boys to stand still long enough for a pic. I hope y'all had a fine Christmas too!

Seeing the little one's eyes light up is simply priceless!
Hoping that everyone here at FR had a wonderful Christmas and took the time to say a Prayer for all of our troops!

They are really adorable. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

My niece gave me a little "M & M" train car toy thing-y today, I assure you I shall always treasure it. She gave Uncle Hubby a little toy barbie bracelet, told him to keep it so he'd "always have something to remember me by". Needless to say, this will adorn our Christmas tree for years to come, as it is far too small for hubby to actually wear it!

"Are pickles on Christmas morning some sort of tradition..."

Not sure about the eating of pickles, swamp can maybe fill you in on that, but we do the "pickle present" thing. We have a little pickle shaped ornament, and it gets hidden on the tree, whoever finds it gets a special little present. This is allegedly a German tradition, but of course, me being an American, I got it, along with the required ornament, from a catalouge. And, as fate would have it, we've got only one child, who has successfully found that pickle for about 17 years in a row. She's very smart and talented!

But me being a German-American, of course I love it. It is the very last ornament to go on the tree, and this year we made particularly good use of it, in terms of tipping her off to her big gift. So, maybe we've really started a tradition, or maybe not. Time will tell

A pickle used as an ornament on the Christmas tree seems odd at first, but this is an old German tradition. When decorating the Christmas tree, it was a practice to hang the pickle ornament last, hidden among the twigs. The first child on Christmas Eve to find the Christmas pickle ornament would receive an extra gift.
