The pealed the bells, both loud and deep,
"God is not dead nor doth he sleep!
The wrong shall fail, the right revail,
With Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men."

Oh, I like getting gifts but I have lots of fun giving them, too. I love those Eureka! moments when you find just the right thing ... and the reaction of the recipient. This year I just couldn't think of a WOW thing for hubby so gave him a bunch of smaller things. It's hard to buy for someone who does nothing but work himself to exhaustion ... :-(

We've never done the huge meal thing at Christmas ... it's always been much more laid back. I decided when the kids came along that I wasn't going to spend Christmas in the kitchen.

Our tradition has been to have a fresh ham (this year since it's just the two of us, I got a small pork loin roast) and pop it in the oven early in the morning. The day before I have made up some fruit salad. That with the Christmas goodies, which include things like a cheese ball, comprise our 'Christmas dinner.' It's always made things much more relaxing so we could spend more time with the kids. And, now, since Thanksgiving and Christmas Day are the only two days when hubby can completely put work out of his mind, it still works for us. We can spend time together without the distraction of the phone ringing or him checking the time-keeping system.

I didn't overeat, but I am not hungry one bit either. While fixing the last part of the meal my weak ankle twisted out on me. So, I'm going to stop for a bit right now and go prop my foot. And read. And maybe take a small nap.

I have always done the huge family gathering on Christmas Eve. That way it allows the ones with small children to spend Christmas morning at home and not have to show up for a dinner.

We are quite happy to have a relaxing day like this. Our daughter and her husband went to South Bend this morning for a couple of days, and our son went to church and in-laws (although they are probably home now).

I enjoy present-giving, too. I surprised my son-in-law with a Bob Dylan movie and The Bob Dylan Scrapbook. I deduced these would be good presents from an off-hand comment our daughter made. He didn't even realize I knew he liked Bob Dylan. (Of course, I got over Bob Dylan about 30 years ago, but HE is fascinated with him, so it was a good gift.)

I keep a mental file of what people are interested in, so that when I gift-shop I can be alert for something really good. Often, it doesn't need to cost much.

I really did my legs in yesterday. Every joint is aching. I hope by tomorrow I am recuperated, since we have a lot of things to get done. Tomorrow is hubby's birthday, and I want to make sure he gets to do those things he wants without me whining about my knees.

Oh, sorry about your ankle, Jemian!

I wonder if part of the loss of appetite is simply handling all that food. This morning I had to cut up and wrap quite a bit of ham, and that sort of made it unappetizing for a while.

Hope your ankle gets better!

The latest leak from the NY Times was worse than we thought.

http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/1091

A former technology manager at a major telecommunications company said that since the Sept. 11 attacks, the leading companies in the industry have been storing information on calling patterns and giving it to the federal government to aid in tracking possible terrorists.

This is just outrageous stuff they are telling AQ...

Sigh. I really, really would like to see some public action against these people. It is disgusting.

This was posted on that site I linked by a poster in the comments section.

Look at Rockefeller’s written note about technology and “TIA”. This is about new technology. It is no longer necessary to go to the switch site to wiretap phone calls. For example, FCC recently ruled that CALEA covers VOIP services. The purpose of CALEA is to preserve the ability of law enforcement to conduct electronic surveillance in the face of rapid advances in telecommunications technology.

This is not domestic wire tapping as the MSM would like us to believe! This is an automated interception program (remember Able Danger) and warrants are not feasible until a specific individual in the US is identified. Note Graham’s comment in the WaPo:

“I came out of the room with the full sense that we were dealing with a change in technology but not policy,” Graham said, with new opportunities to intercept overseas calls that passed through U.S. switches. He believed eavesdropping would continue to be limited to “calls that initiated outside the United States, had a destination outside the United States but that transferred through a U.S.-based communications system.”

The NYT has released information about a classified program and they have broken the law!

WOW...we're alone right now. It's been a full day. Everyone ate till the almost popped. I almost split my M&M Santa Tee Shirt. No, not really, I behaved. he. Santa really was good to everyone...Boy 2 said he put extra cookies out and Baileys in the milk. Hmmmm. My boys have grown up.

We had a wonderful time. I know everyone, here, did too. We are so blessed. We are so lucky to have Someone who came and took our place on the post of sin.

Jemian, JT is a pretty smart feller....Red Velvet Cake lasts only a few minutes. But who know...Barbara or Jenna.

It can Jane...but it will mean a war with the MSM....a real going to the matteresses type war.

Keep in mind what the NYTimes is doing is totally out of synch with the polls of the American people(who understand the stakes)....the Times and the elitists there have forgot what it felt like the morning when those two towers fell....and the awful feeling when it dawned on you that thousands of innocent people had just perished.

Their hatred is to deep to stop now....they will go for broke with more damaging leaks to come....if it means thousands more dead....they will risk it.

I remember right after 9/11 - Tom Daschle and most of the libs had that "I want my mommy" look on their face. I remember posting back then that we had 6 maybe 9 months before they got over it and started whining anti-war propoganda. I think it actually lasted a little longer than that because of the Anthrax letters to Congressmen.

Anyway - they detest war and the solution is always negotiations including surrender if necessary. In the case of terrorists - there's no nation to surrender to -- so they hae concluded it's all Bush's fault since he went to war.

I wish I lived close to Manhatten - I'd love to organize anti-NY Times demonstrations. Who gives them the right to leak classified info? Who gives them the right to legislate from the bench? Who gives them the right to income transfer? I don't want them running my life. I don't want them running my country.

Thank god the public by in large hasn't bought the spin from the MSM over the NSA leaks or the torture or rendition stuff....they know what it means if we lose.

I don't know about this. RVC tends to last with me several years.

O'Reilly had on some pompous ass from ABC the other night, who was poo-pooing the importance of this leak, and saying that the story was important and he wouldn't do anything different.

If you remember that creepy idiot reporter in the "Die Hard" movies, you will know exactly what that guy was like.

I guess we are going to have to brace ourselves for another long battle with the press. They have decided to be anti-American. It was their decision, and they will have to face the consequences.

What is hard to understand is how they can hate this country so much they will risk an attack on their own neighbors....what makes someone like that tick.

Well, Dog, they don't think they hate our country. What it is is that they are incapable of seeing differences between countries; they think all sides have equal merit.

They have been brainwashed by an educational system which places no emphasis on the unique nature of America. Then they all hang out together and reinforce each others' ideas, and congratulate themselves on how much smarter they are than us dumb citizens.

I don't know how to change their minds.
