14 pound Baby born to Oklahoma Couple
CBS Early Show

I heard the news reports and then on CBS this morning they had the couple on the Early Show. Looking at the parents, its easy to see where the baby got its weight.
The parents are obese and the baby is starting off that way. Why should we celebrate this and give them all this TV coverage? All three will be a drain to our health care system for years to come.

My father claims he was 12 pounds at birth. He was 6'2" and normal weight, actually, a bit underweight. My second born was 9 pounds, 9 1/2 oz at birth. He doubled his weight in three months and was 30 pounds at one year. He is now 5'11" and maybe 155 pounds.

What was funny or ironic was that before this story they had a expert talk about obesity in children, saying how its becoming an epidemic in our country.
(I think it may have been a segment on the Early Show but it could have been a segment on the local edition before the Early Show came on).

I didn't mean to be mean-spirited. I was stating an observation. I'm not sure if anyone else saw the clip but hopefully some others will share their thoughts and opinions.

No, if that was the case, I would be putting up a post everytime I watched "The Practice".

This is like the "first baby born this year" stories run by big-city papers and the kid is almost always illegitimate. Heartwarming.LOL!!!
I never noticed that - but it wouldn't surprise me!
The parents were celebrating April Fools' Day!

The Segment , just in case anyone wants to watch the video before accusing Max of being heartless, insensitive and fat-bigoted. This baby will probably have heart disease before she's thirty. If her parents don't make an effort to shape up, she will have a miserable childhood, worse teenage years, and probably die early. THIS IS A CRUEL THING TO DO TO YOUR CHILDREN. It's not about being mean to fat people.

When I grew up, if I wasn't at school I was outside riding my bike, skateboard, or something like that. A lot of kids (not all) growing up now can be found sitting at the TV playing video games.

I was only 8 pounds and change, but the doctor was using a split bamboo fly rod with 4 pound test, so I made it into the recod books anyway.

I didn't mean to be mean-spirited.Yes you did, you just thought you could justify it because you think this mother deserves it.

Not sure how you can know my feelings over the internet.
See Post 28. It shows the entire segment and LEL echos my thoughts.

I got your back. ;-)
Seriously, people get all upset if you point out how unhealthy obesity is...Like no one has a choice in the matter. My mother was not morbidly obese, but she was very heavy for most of her life (she'e lost alot of weight these past few years. It started right after I left home, in fact.Hmmm). She made a herculean effort to train our eating habits right, and make sure we ate good food; I've had three kids in three years, and I weigh what I did right after boot camp. I am actually too small for my pre-pregnancy jeans. I'm very fortunate that my mother cared enough about us to educate herself about nutrition. That and the fact that she didn't feed us Twinkies and Happy Meals every day.

Yep,
We're now seeing Type II diabetes in children....the kind that was alway associated with adults in the past.
Reasoning being obesity and sedentary lifestyles. It's sad. But the DBE's that I know say that the parents are the ones they want to strangle.

This isn't about adults choosing for themselves The baby's path in life is already laid out by her parent's choices. I just think it's sad.
