Welcome to the OFFICIAL Friday/Saturday Night Singles' Thread
"We're Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight...Let's Celebrate...It's All Right!"
In store for tonight (as proposed by apackof2):
To get our thread started, we're going to answer these questions:
1) "When and why did you join Free Republic?"
2) "What was going on at the time?" (Top movies, favorite song(s), price of gas, etc.)
3) "What happened on that day in history?"
Of possible further interest:

FRmail me if you want on or off the F/S Singles' Thread Ping List. It will only be used for pinging to the official thread, and will never be used for any other purpose.

A special thanks to Paul_Denton for keeping the thread going in my absence.

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots
conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse,
to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

When you're involved with terrorists, Islamists, and doing business and support with them, who knows who of them you can trust and who you can't?

That is an extremely interesting take on the attempted assassination attempt -- like something out of a political novel.

No honor among thieves and all that. I guess our hope is that they end up doing eachother in.

That is what I've been hoping for...an great percentage of the population is young. I hope they can rise up and overthrow the regime themselves.

Yes; it does sound rather Tom Clancy-ish. And thanks for adding me to the ping list, BTW.

And yet, city officials continue to abide by an illegal executive order issued by Mayor Koch, which forces city workers to ignore the immigration status of potential criminals who avail themselves of public services.

That would be very courteous of them...it would save US a lot of trouble.

Are you the cartoon guy? You're very talented, and I'm a little envious. I'm always getting ideas for cartoons in my head, but since I can't draw worth crap, they just stay there.

The House of Representatives passed reauthorization of the Patriot Act. Yet a minority of senators filibustered to block the renewal of the Patriot Act when it came up for a vote yesterday. That decision is irresponsible, and it endangers the lives of our citizens. The senators who are filibustering must stop their delaying tactics, and the Senate must vote to reauthorize the Patriot Act. In the war on terror, we cannot afford to be without this law for a single moment.
Think of what we would lose if this law were to lapse...investigations would go cold in an instant.

Considering that they said they were only monitoring those who pretty obviously had connections to terrorism, I really don't understand those who are upset. Do they NOT want the country to be safe?

Sorry to hear about the noise! I live in a complex too but soon to move to a house! I'm quite thankful it's pretty quiet here. Course I live on top, I think that helps!
To: RosieCotton
Do they NOT want the country to be safe? Remember, they are the party of the smoking gun. They would rather the gun go off and people be dead than stop an attack beforehand. They've admitted that by saying "There is no smoking gun" (regarding Iraq).
Here's what I sent Senator Specter earlier today via e-mail:
Dear Senator Specter,
I am dismayed by your recent antics concerning the NSA and President Bush. He has the authority to protect the citizens of the United States, and should not have to wait for a "smoking gun" to respond to terrorists. People's lives are at stake, and we are in the middle of a war.
He has notified Congress at least a dozen times about this evesdropping. Rather than being concerned that these leakers are causing great harm to our Republic, I see your name attached to nearly every article that is critical of the President of the United States instead.
I thank you for your service to this great country, but it's time for you to resign for the good of the nation. You should have resigned after defending former President Clinton by referring to Scottish law rather than the Constitution, but here we are years later and you are again acting contrary to the interests of the United States and her citizens.
Please do the right thing.
Sincerely,
XXXX

I guess not if they think they can make it an election issue and restore themselves to power. No sacrifice is too great--not even American security--to achieve that goal. How low can they go?
To: ozarkgirl
This is the first time it's really been an issue, and I've been here since late spring, so I'm hoping they'll deal with it. Not like I'm a chronic whiner.
This guy is right above me and it sounds like he has one of the bedrooms set up as a music room, which is probably part of why it's so loud. Hopefully it'll calm down from here on out, though!

A fun little diversion down memory lane: Under my first screen name, I joined in 1999 after lurking for awhile. I found the FR link at Drudge and came to read about SinkGate, the Lewinsky Caper, and all things scandalous and Clinton. I'd actually voted for that sleaze. Twice. And needed a place to get my mind scrubbed out.
The day I joined was coincidentally the anniversary of the day Regan told Gorbie to "tear down that wall." It was also Jack Nickelson's birthday, hardly a matter of citywide importance.
