Need Your Ideas for a name (total vanity)
Posted on 12/16/2005 11:14:42 AM PST by Kimmers
My husband is starting a medical practice devoted to helping patients with knee and hip symptoms. He is concerned that term patient is too demeaning and not representative of the best health care relationship. He believes that the best care requires the establishment of a partnership.
Recognising this philosophy, should the people in the practice refer to people with health care needs as:
A.) Patients B.) Clients C.) Partners D.) Someone else - if so, What would be a better term?
Thank You

Victim? Cadaver? Practicee?

I'd go with 'client' and hope they don't become 'plantiffs'.

A.) Patients - Not in the least bit demeaning, and most accurate.
B.) Clients - Why not customers, basically the same idea, it is a bit cold.
C.) Partners - Please, this is ridiculous, if they were partners they would also share the profits.
D.) Someone else - If they are liberals, just call them victims since I am sure that is what they believe they are. If the are conservatives, I doubt they really care what he calls them.

What kind of a doctor needs help from an anonymous web forum, on what to call patients?

I would agree I think patients is the correct term but he was asking for my opinion so I deferred to all of you

When I suffered from a TIA over the summer, my neurologist gave me a mug with a slogan along the lines of "Partners in Neurological Research."
It made me feel all tingly inside, although that could have been from the TIA.

They are patients. They will respect a doctor for how they are treated, not some name he made up.
