It's certainly one of the most favorably reviewed movies of the year, and a major player in the best picture race at the Oscars.
But 'Brokeback Mountain' isn't the easiest sell to audiences unaccustomed to films that deal frankly with same sex relationships: even at a recent screening in Los Angeles' liberal Westside, some moviegoers broke into inappropriate (but no doubt tension relieving) laughter at a scene in which the wife of taciturn cowboy (Heath Ledger) catches her husband in a passionate embrace with Jack Twist. (Jake Gyllenhall)
Perhaps to remind viewers (and voters) that there is more to director Ang Lee's film than it's wretching portrait of a gay relationship, a new 'for your consideration' ad appeared in today's Hollywood trade papers.
Where most of the ads to date have pictured Ledger and Gyllenhall, this one covers all the bases by going for a distinctly familiar and thoroughly heterosexual image: Jack Twist and his wife Lauren (Anne Hathaway) holding their newborn baby.
In other words, Brokeback Mountain may be the gay cowboy movie, but it's not just the gay cowboy movie.

The point of this movie is to produce the SHAM that homosexuality is a "relationship" rather than a sexual fetish like any other. (ie sex with sheep)
Goeobles could not have done it better.
I'm becoming convinced that this isn't true. I'm becoming more and more convinced that their only goal is to destroy the hated bourgesoisie, and profit be damned. They're all a bunch of socialists anyway.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear about this movie I flash to that South Park episode -- wonder if Matt and Trey are clairvoyant! Wish I had that Southpark picture of their two cowboys eating pudding. Honestly, who can take a movie seriously that was parodied three years before it ever came out?
The thing that makes Brokeback Mountain such a breakthrough and significant western is that unlike most westerns in Brokeback Mountain the good guys get it in the end.
OOPs, I didn't see the earlier post. My bad.
TOM CRUISE COME OUT OF THE CLOSET!
Forget the Oscars. Ignore them. Hollywood means nothing. They serve nothing but trash.
They aren't exactly the John Wayne type, are they?
Are they cowboys with pimples?
will watch later.
Wretching like Puking? If that is what he meant, it doesn't work in that sentence. However, I would probably do some wretching if I had to sit through this movie.
I know. I just keep thinking...
Cowboy#1-"HEY,I'm out of Puddin'"
Cowboy#2-"you can share mine."
Cowboy#1-"I'm bored what do we do now?"
Cowboy#2-"Let's explore our sexuality!"
I love that episode.
Yeah, I guess those are the "terms of endearment" but the talking head used "love-making". You know, the P.C. route.
It's going to be great watching this piece of elitist crap bomb at the box office! Hollywood will never learn that Americans vote with their money and all of us "homophobes" won't be wasting it buying popcorn for this one.
I noticed that the bold-faced word seems rather out of context for an LA Times article, so I went to the source page and they have it as "wrenching" now. Did you make a transcription error or did they have to hastily correct that?
That's it! That's it! You've made my day, thank you!!!!!
