To me, the most powerful scene in Private Ryan was at the end of the movie, in the cemetary.

I believe you are correct.

II, in my opinion, is much better.
It is perhaps the finest American film ever made.
To: RightCanuck
I disagree. I thought it was probably, IMO, his finest work.

I agree,
as a bit of propaganda, that scene is brilliant.
Even the "Pelican in Her Piety" was used for maximum effect. (Was it on the carriage or on the mother...can't recall)

Fair enough. Maybe I just didn't get it.

Number 2 on my list is Captain Quint's U.S.S. Indianapolis story in Jaws.
"... So..., eleven hundred men went into the water. 316 men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945. Anyway..., we delivered the bomb. "

And of course there's Belushi's "Was it OVER when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" scene in Animal House.

I still say the Godfathers (and Casino etc) are truly 'guy' movies.
I've yet to watch them without wincing at the female caricatures (virgin, mother, whore).
I don't 'get' them...but I can see why others do. OK, so I've never been able to watch one all the way through, I got bored and changed chanels.

A movie that I doubt anyone recalls, "All the marbles", is a favorite of mine. Peter Falk plays the manager of a couple of Lady pro-wrestlers. You just feel like you know the characters personally and like them.
Seen it many times, but not for a while. I would like to see it again.
