Each year it gets harder and harder to locate Christmas wrapping paper with a Christian theme. You know, the designs we used to take for granted: Babe in a Manger, the Three Wise Men, Peace on Earth, etc.
I thought it would be useful to pool our resources as to what is available out there in stores and on the Web.
After a few hours on Google, I've found two designs that fit the bill:
Clearly my Google-foo skills are deficient. Anyone else have some good sources?
I'm a Christian and also of Jewish descent. This means that I am Christian but refuse to ignore my heritage. When I was a kid me grandfather gave me a dreidle and we had a menorah every year. To each their own. Judaeism is a religion, Hebrew is accurate for the race, but "Jewish" is also used to indicate it.
papermart has some star patterns and 2 angel patterns in 100' rolls and orientaltrading.com has some Christian-themed gift bags. Your local Christian bookstore should have a nice selection.
The creative alternatives are fun and satisfying. I don't make my own Christmas gift wrap....but make all my Christmas decorations. This year I gave some Victorian ornaments I made back in the '70's to my two adult daughters, who've been bugging me for them for years. I'll make more. It's kinda neat, knowing that when your kids are hanging decorations you made, they're thinking of you and their kids do...it adds the much needed weight of family continuity to a Holiday that's been stripped of meaning.
Yeah. My family is really trying to get back to the reason for Christmas and basics.
Naw, too impersonal. I go with voice mail. "Yea, it's uncle Larry. I guess you're not up at 3am. Just wanted to say Merry Christmas!"
If only more families would (**sigh**)
LOL!!! As long as it isn't "Doonesbury!"
I would go to Hobby Lobby. Just don't go on Sunday, they are closed.
"Anyone else have some good sources?"
I didn't read all of the responses, so if this has been covered, please ignore.
Why BUY wrapping paper to begin with? How about just simple, brown kraft grocery bags tied with raffia. Then, you can tuck in fresh evergreen clippings from your yard (or from the park under cover of darkness, LOL!) for a very "natural" look.
You can also wrap a gift in another gift...like, say, a new kitchen towel, or put your gift inside a new pillowcase, with the other pillowcase inside, too.
Oh, I've got a million ideas to avoid using Christmas Wrap. Never did understand spending money on something that would be immediately crumpled up and thrown away, though some people fold it carefully and recycle it.
But that's just me. Though I'm pretty sure that Baby Jesus' initial gifts came to him sans gift wrapping. I'd bet you a roll or wrap that Hallmark is behind this multi-million dollar scam each and every year. ;)
Go to any discount store in a Hispanic area of your town, and you'll find plenty. I found beautiful religious wrapping paper in a Target store here in Florida last year.
Try #16, #31, #35, etc., LOL!!! Can't believe you wouldn't know that FReepers would have the same senitment!!
Our local christian bookstore has a good selection of gift wrap and gift bags!
Well, YOU didn't ignore me, per my post specifications. I'm a busy woman these days with many gifts to creatively wrap, due to my generous nature.
Harrass me AFTER the holidays, or NO cookies in a pillowcse for YOU! :)
Oh, that reminds me! Recycled, clean and good-looking tins make nice "wrap," too. Fill a few with your gifts, stack 'em, tie with ribbon and you're lookin' as good as any 'Harry & David' gift out there. :)
(OK. Now I'm just channeling "Martha" LOL!)
One family at a time:') Spread the word.
You have a problem with that?
I want Martha's old show back. I can't believe how much I miss it. Somebody described it as Zen...I used to look forward to her monotone-I-can-do-this-better-than-you-ever-will. It was a good coffee-break show.
Her new show is a travesty.
