The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'd root for them now, but I'd feel guilty about it being the first game I watched all year. :-)

Well, tuh be honest, if'n I watch ~this~ one, it'll be muh first. I always want 'em to do well, but up until this year we've not had much hope. Mostly, I keep up with Virginia Tech and Jr's high school team.

I suspect Seattle will pull it off.

Didya get everything hung? I'm back from my errands, and I have one happy puppy. I found a package of four big soup bones at the store, and Gypsy is now in the backyard demolishing one of 'em. I've got a Guniness so I'm a happy camper, too!!

So if they win this game do they go to the Superbowl?

Ummm...no.

I planted some herb seeds, potted up a spaghetti squash (it's already forming buds), and took the walk I usually take in the mornings. Oh, and I found the rooting hormone.

Mmmmmmmmmm.....Guinness....

Hi - we're back from our adventure to see the local flooding around town... The water's been receding for a day or two now, so we missed the worst of it...

This is a mile or so from our place... Sign in the front yard says "for sale"

Sign says "Proposed Location of Fire Station"

I love this valley and would love to own this property for our boarding stable. The forest where we ride is behind.

I took this picture for 2J at the place where we had breakfast. Beautifully restored Beetle with a little poodle inside.

This is near the Chehalis River.

The river is actually beyond those far trees.

This is the Chehalis River...

Thought this was a neat picture... Weyerhauser tree farm "20 Million Douglas Fir Seedlings shipped annually"

I thought the little dinky mini horses with their little mini blankets were cute.

And finally: The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. :~D

Every time I hear "Weyerhauser", I think of that creepy automaton.

Heh... pretty funny, huh - particularly because the grass is remarkably the same on both sides :~D

Somehow it reminds me of Halvah. If she were a cow, that's exactly how she'd react to grass on the other side of a fence.

Definitely a photo worth keeping!

There's probably a "demotivators" poster message in it somewhere...

Ha! Yeah, could be!

Seriesly, that's the sort of thing you could probably submit to a photo contest or something.

Unfortunately it's a ~little ~ blurry. We were too hasty to get out of the car and make it better.

Wow, that's some series flooding up your way! I'd heard there was a lot of rain, but I didn't realize there had been that much flooding.

Just got back from taking David to Providence to catch his flight back to Austin. That is, if his flight actually took off on time. There was a lot of fog, but it may have been mostly close to the ground because of the sublimation going on. It was 54 degrees out there today!! The snow is melting and going right into water vapor, skipping the melting to water stage completely!

~sniff~ He was here almost a month; I'm gonna miss him. So will Clare and Joseph. They had a great time while he was home. Paul gets back in next weekend, but then heads right out on Monday for his last semester of Law School.

Supposedly they've getting flooding in some areas back home, too. Just a really warm and wet winter in a lot of areas...and then too dry in other places. Odd how that works a lot of the time.

It's looking like we may finally get rain here for once. Pretty grey out there.

It's nice that they do get long winter breaks, isn't it?

As warm as it is there, bet David was still looking forward to Texas warmth, huh? ;-)
