The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Here's hoping that isn't so!

I did get told two weeks for that one job...and at the end of one, I got the dismissal letter. But it sounded to me like they were super interested in you.

Maybe one of the decision makers is on vacation this week.

I'm sure they liked you! What's not to like?

Maybe one of the decision makers is on vacation this week.

<perking up a little>That's possible.

See, it's a job with political overtones, and, because of the goofy political escapades currently going on in this state, the muckety-mucks who have to sign off may be distracted ...

Hope that's all it is!

In other news...I got my Burpee catalog yesterday!

Wish I knew for absolute sure that I was gonna be able to stay here. I could start planning a balcony garden. There are some nice things in here! Could do flowers, herbs, cherry tomatoes, peppers, maybe even eggplant and zucchini.

D'you think I could hire a small child - pay 'em with cookies or something - to throw Tam's ball over and over? Or would that get irritating even to a kid?

I think I'm at the hide-it-up-high stage again.

GACK!!!!

I really think the Senators on the Judicial Committee ought to be ashamed of themselves!

They started this segment of questioning with a weird-o --- and wholly inappropriate and stupid --- Anita Hill(!!!) story, then asked if the President was compelled to obey a law passed by Congress that trumps the Constitution.

Isn't that what the Supreme Court is for? Deciding beefs between different branches of government? Yeesh!

He was so desperate, he kept bringing it to me this morning. Dropping it at my feet and whining.

Ha! Poor baby...he's like a border collie in a cat suit. Gotta keep him busy...

That is one strange cat. Build an auto ball launching device. Train Tam to drop the ball in a hopper and it will shoot it across the room automatically. Of course then you would have to switch it off at night. And having met Tam that would probably mean a cat sitting in front of the device yowling all night long.

But it would be fun to build the device. It would be like one of those softball pitching machines on a much much smaller scale...

Nah, he's pretty good about sleeping at night.

Though...when he was a kitten and I hadn't figured out that it was best to tire him out during the day, he had one of those balls-in-a-track dealies. Amazing how much noise those seem to make at two in the morning. And he could open all my cabinets and drawers, so it was hard to hide it.

I ended up stuffing it in the freezer a few times, as the only place he hadn't figured out how to reach. Luckily he's better about not climbing up high these days, so I can put toys out of reach...

Bet he'd like a ball launching device, though. Crazy cat...

Remember ... temperatures in San Antonio are going to be in the high 60s to the low 70s ... leave the fur coat at home! <grin>

Hey, the elevator in the Tower of the Americas got stuck again ... maybe they need to renovate that, too?

Not too many elevators in Fredericksburg ...

Not that I have a fur coat, but I was planning to pack for slightly warmer weather. It'll be nice!

Hmm, stuck elevators...

The Senators have not acquitted themselves well at all. They're all just bloviating; even the ones who support Alito! Biden, Kennedy and Schumer have outdone themselves in their idiocy, and I didn't think that was even possible!

I hear the tower itself is down for renovation.
I am sure we can find SOMEthing else to do...
