LOL! Long day?
We left the house at 1 this afternoon. We were supposed to meet someone at chick-fil-a, but they didn't show. Afterwards, we went to Mardel's to laminate flash cards (woohoo! < /sarcasm>).
I meant for us to go to church, but rush hour traffic caught me by surprise. We usually don't travel in that part of town at that time of day. In any case, since we were gonna miss church anyway, we went to the grocery store instead. Got home at 6-ish. Just in time for a bit of dinner and to watch a show on TV. Er... make that listen to a show on TV. (I have officially become my mother... I listen to the shows instead of watching them.)
See, it used to be a big deal...my folks would watch the boys while Steve and I would go out to eat, then finish up all our Christmas shopping. That's how we always celebrated our anniversary, so he never forgot. It was one of the rare times I left the jedis with my folks for any extended period of time, other than if I had a doctor appointment.
But them days are over. I've considered getting a babysitter, but never could really justify the expense. Just wasn't that big of a deal. I could have just as easily forgot.
I feel the same way. Justifying the expense for a sitter... as a result, we don't get out much without the kids though.
Heh! I listen to them now too! Funny! I've even noticed it!
The boys enjoyed the hamburger helper and then cleaned up their room and went to bed. I cleaned up the living room and Joshua offered to help. He said "I'm not going to do anything but keep you company...unless you want me to do something, thing don't bother to ask." Heh heh!! What he *meant* was "Don't hesitate to ask." but he gets things like that mixed up all the time.
I just fix it for him in my head...he'll figure it out eventually.
Well, I dunno, but I enjoy having them with me and they're well-mannered out in public and they don't get to go out to eat very often so I hate to go out to eat without them when we go...
So I don't mind taking them with me...
'Sides...I figure Steve and I'll have many many years to eat out together alone without them...we had many many years to eat out together before we had them!
You know... I really got gypped in my years as a sitter. I only sat for church/homeschool ladies. They thought two bucks an hour, with maybe an additional buck if there were more than three kids, was a decent rate. Then I hear these stories about sitters who take home fifty bucks a night... sheesh.
I think I am gonna turn in for the night.
sleep well...
I would NEVER do that. That happened to me. I watched FOUR kids for our music minister all afternoon and I think he thought I was doing it for free until I asked for my pay. I think he gave me 5 bucks.
I was thinking $6 an hour...$3 per kid. Minimum wage is $5.15 an hour, I think.
You think that's fair? The reason I ask is because Steve and I are planning to attend another disaster relief training session...
Good night!
I don't know the going rate in your area. I think minimum wage might be high - I never expected an extra child fee unless there were at least three. You won't go wrong offering 6 but 5 might be acceptable. How long will the session be?
Check at your homeschool group for an older girl or boy.
Starts at 8am and ends at 3pm. So they'd have to get here really early, serve breakfast and lunch. We'd be home by four. On a Saturday, no less.
Steve wants to get his yellow cap so he can alternate calls with me in the future.
I need to do this right, because the babysitter will be the son or daughter of one of my friends and I want to have a good name, you know?
That's a long thing. I would offer $45 for the whole day, outline what's involved, and offer if possible to pick up/drop off the sitter. Don't get a sitter who can drive - the ability to drive in an emergency is outweighed by the dangers of "let's go to the mall" temptations. Even a responsible teen is still a teen. An older boy who comes well recommended from the homeschool group might be good, I bet your boys would love that. Ask around at your group. Someone there will know the right person.
I just put in an inquiry with the egroup. I know there are several girls that babysit and perhaps one boy...
We'll see. It's not till April, so I have time to work out the particulars.
I gotta go to bed...I'm wiped out!
Night!
It's the times, hon. When I baby-sat, back in the Dark Ages of the late 60's, I made $.75 an hour and thought that was great! My first real job at a Woolco (think Wal Mart), paid me $1.05 an hour, then when I went to Burger King to work while in college, they actually paid us a little over the minimum wage. I think I made a whopping $1.75 an hour! LOL!
You gotta watch it with those exciting days, 2J! ;o)
Yeah but I was babysitting within the last ten years and we never made close to $5 an hour... though like I said maybe I got taken advantage of.
I'm not sure if this has been suggested already, but W2K and XP only have native drive support up to about 240GB. Anything bigger, and it doesn't know what to do with the drive.
Depending on the brand, you can either partition the new drive into something the OS can handle, install drivers, or run some utility to patch Windows before it sees the new drive for the first time. That's what I've had to do.
*yawn*
