Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Tech-type question...
I have Windows 2000 Pro, and a new 300GB external USB hard drive. I have found that if the hard drive is turned on during boot up, it freezes the process at about this point:

Once I turn the hard drive off, it continues to boot normally. Any ideas on why and how to correct this? It's not ~that~ much of a problem because my system usually runs weeks at a time between reboots, but it's an annoyance when I do have to restart and don't remember to turn the hard drive off first.

That thing's addictive.
And fun. Found my old place in TX (snif) and my favorite camping spot on the Lampasas (wah)

The pictures for Google Earth were probably taken in late 2001 or 2002. Winter/early spring?
To: ecurbh
Huh... I had a problem like that with a USB camera years ago, but in that case I think it was a driver issue, which I take it wouldn't apply here.
Any BIOS updates you could install? Or firmware updates for the drive itself?
Could also do a Google search with Win2k and the drive model - maybe other folks have had the same issue.

Your external drive is a USB device, and many iterations of W2k don't play nicely with USB 2.0.
What service pack of W2k are you running?

I fully expect my mom to spend some time on it.
She looked so happy "roaming" around Cuba.

What service pack of W2k are you running? Good question. Why don't I think of these things? ;-)
Evening, Rose! How are things?

Oh! That long ago then?
Makes sense.

Service Pack 4.
I haven't Googled it yet, or checked for firmware.
To: RosieCotton
Because you played with civilized versions of Windows, and not the goofy stuff.
I'm just dandy ... except that I haven't heard about that job yet.
<fret, fret>
And how are you? Are you having to sit on Jen to keep her calm?
