Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Just think how disappointed you'll be someday when you post a picture of someone and I know who it is.

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Ruthy - for real this time! ;-)

He was not a TV person, dear ... he was one of the great distinctive voices. A gifted singer, a noted voice actor.
I uploaded one of his jazz hits, "Stormy Monday." You may be familiar with his voice if you hear it ...

I think the "You'll never find" lyric is more common. Got that?

Oh sure, always blame the dwarf. It's never the hobbit's fault...

Man, what a voice!! None of the 'soul' singers of today can hold a candle to Lou Rawls!

So how did that Harry Potter thread suddenly start talking about fun with rocket-propelled grenades? Heh...

Not digitized, unfortunately. I have it on vinyl, but my stereo system is too primitive, currently, to allow for conversion.
I may have to go pull out my Lou Rawls records and listen for a while.

Feh, the grunters today have no idea of "soul," and no concept of "singing." None of them --- not a one --- are great voices ... the last "great voices" in popular music were pre-drugs Whitney and Annie Lennox.
Back in the day, you had Frank Sinatra, and Mel Torme, and Lou, and Aretha, and Al Green, and Billie Holliday, and oh-my-goodness Billy Eckstine, and a host of others. Now, if you can mouth words, and you have an attitude, you're considered to be a "great performer."
Do I sound cantankerous yet???
