The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

If I don't have my work calendar right in front of me, I don't remember anyone's birthday. :-D

I'll have to run out and get her a card at least.

It's a really beautiful house. Weird place for our tree this year but it makes for a pretty picture.

Thanks Ruthy!

Oddly, this year Mom did *not* hang any mistletoe...

With no hidden cameras or chaperones?

Hmmm....they must really like Talon then! :-D

They did like him! My little brothers said he was "so cool" and my little sister is discussing mutual nonagression pacts during world takeover. Other sister was impressed too because he fit in with our weirdness.

Ah, a picture at last!

And a pretty place your folks have there - I'm glad you didn't crop it.

Jen - great looking log house. Talon does clean up okay. Still, the pic's missing something...got it - sidearms.

Rosie - good plan.

OT - any news on the Saturn front?

And Aly grabbed another annoying noise maker. Sesame Street Giggle Gang something or other. Basically, it's 3 characters singing "HA, HA, HO, HO, HEE, HEE" to the tune of various songs. :-/

Oh dear...that could get realllly old.

What's fun are the ones that will keep going as the battery goes, but the pitch of the voices goes down until the thing dies. My sister had a doll that would say things like "Mama" and giggle...my brothers would intentionally put old batteries in it. Sounded like a horrible crazy man. "Maaaaammmaaa...huhhhuhhhuhhh..."

My brother's kids have this:

'Tis quite charming.

Starring Billboy Baggypants, his nephew Toto, Randalf the Wizard, Ear-O-Corn, Leg-O-Lamb, the evil lord Scaryman and his evil sporks, the creepy green Ahem, , etc, etc, etc.

I like their house. It does make a nice setting for a picture, doesn't it.

LOL! I guess when Pippin saw that Tweak was none the worse for wear after her dive into the glass, she thought she'd give it a try.
