The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh come ON. You guys have a cleaning woman who comes in a couple times a month... How bad can that place be?

Kewl! I was just thinking about designing an herb garden.

Think I'll get the squirrels some hot pepper wax.

I seem to remember having something planned for friday. Not sure what, but I know there was something. I am sure I will remember it sooner or later...

Nope... she's fired. Back in... what... August or so.

I think Dona was unhappy with how clean it was not getting for the money.

*chortle* I'm going to have to do something similar to keep the cowdogs out. Jack and Sadie love those veggies.

If I get my act together, I'm going to do an herb garden on the balcony this year. I miss my little garden back home!

I should be able to at least do basic things, I'd think! Mint and chives and thyme and parsley, and maybe sage and oregano.

Ah, yes! How could I forget that?

Seems like I had pretty good luck with basil in a window box in the past, too. Nice stuff just to pick and rub a leaf now and then, in addition to actually *using* it!

Gotta have basil!

Herbs should do okay in pots.

I plant it just to smell it. I love garden smells. If I could find a cologne with a tomato plant scent or a basil scent I'd wear it every day. I like the smell of marigolds, too - has lots of happy memories tied up in it.

If I had a cleaning woman she wouldn't have any work to do. I'd clean up before she arrived because I'd be mortified to have someone discover my lack of housekeeping skills. Heh.

My mom used to do the same thing. She always cleaned the toilets before the cleaning lady came.

WooHoo! I checked the Eddie Bauer site, and that blue sweater you mentioned is a GORGEOUS color! It's gonna look great on you! What color yarn did you get? Speaking of the Boye Balene Hooks, I'd noticed those, searching around, when we were chatting about hooks the other day. I'm glad that worked out for you.

NOW, you know you're going to have to take your camera to the party, and get someone to take a picture of you in your new outfit, or just do the timer thing and take one before you go so we can see it!

You're gonna have a GREAT time!

heh...

I ~attempted~ (once again) to watch Corin's DVD, but the kids will not give me a moment's peace. Grrr...

Before I blow my stack, I just turned it off and settled them in with something else.

I figger I'll watch it sometime this weekend, when I can stay up late (ie, after they're asleep) and watch it without interruption. But from what I've already seen, all I can say is WOW! It is MUCH better than I expected. Very well done.

Thus, the frustration of not being able to finish watching it! LOL!!

XGI - I still need to get your addy to pass the DVD along afterwards. Where'd you run off to?
