Oh, vey nice!! Could you whip yourself up a crocheted skinny scarf in some funky colors before the party so you could throw it around your neck? You'd only need one skein of yarn! There are some great variegated color combo yarns out there! Of course, that means a trip to Hobby Lobby! ;o)
Ooohh! Most definitely the blue for you!
I like it too! My Mom had great taste! ;-) I miss shopping with her - we had a lot of fun.
I know I've mentioned this before, but she LOVED really bright colors, and the last dress she helped me pick out is bright blue with hot pink flowers and other colors. It's very pretty, I think, but definitely not subdued! I wore it when I did the reading at her funeral. I'm sure there were a few who were a little taken aback, but I'm sure she would have gotten a kick out of it. ;-)
Why not wear that dress to the party?
It's indoors, right?
With blue dangly earrings? ;-)
I really need to find a good local place for earrings. Haven't yet. There's a lady back home that handmakes them and sells them at the farmer's market and craft fairs in the summer and at a booth at the mall in the winter. She gets different beads from all over the world to make them. They're generally only five or ten dollars a pair, too.
I had a bunch of 'em, but I've managed to lose a lot. *sigh* I want more colors!
I'm sure she did, since you wore it in her honor!!
Coldwater Creek sell purty earrings, too! ;o)
Those dangly ones you got recently are great. I love the green ones you gave me. The blue ones would make lovely party accessories.
You heard back from the girl yet?
Ya know, the one trouble with that dress is that it does *really* poorly in dry conditions. Static city! I wonder if those anti-static sprays work, 'cause the last few times I wore it, it glued itself to the back of my legs and...ahem...just wasn't exactly fun. ;-)
eggnog's ready!
I used the recipe of Mrs. Renfro from Starkville MS.
6 eggs, separated
2 c. bourbon
2 c. heavy cream
1 c. half and half
1 c. whole milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 c. confectioner's sugar
nutmeg (optional)
Combine 1 c. bourbon with egg yolks, beat adding 1/2 c. sugar and set aside to "cook." Whip egg whites until they form soft peaks and chill. Whip heavy cream, adding the rest of the sugar, the vanilla, and a dash of nutmeg. Fold the egg whites into the whipped cream. Slowly fold in the bourbon/yolk mixture, the rest of the bourbon, then the half and half, and finally the milk. Add more milk if mixture is too thick. Ladle into coffee cups and sprinkle with nutmeg if desired. Serve immediately or chill.
note: Add extra bourbon to taste if desired.
Mmmm. Sounds yum, but like a lot of work. I just pour some Wild Turkey in some Egg Nog I get from the Grocery Store! Had some last night, as a matter of fact. Mmmm, GOOD!
Or even tossing it in the dryer for 5 minutes with a sheet of fabric softener outta do the trick in a pinch.
I haven't tried the anti-static sprays, so I can't tell ya if they work or not. :-/
Wow! That sounds really good!
Somehow I doubt you have much trouble with static there...heh... Too humid!
Here, there have been nights where I can see the cats running around because if they brush up against anything, there are sparks. We need a humidifier one of these days, though makin' hot water in the tea kettle and just cooking generally helps a bit, I think.
And a close-up:
It's been a pain, but now it's going quickly, and I think won't turn out half bad! I do like the pattern...but I think next time I use it, I'll do a bedspread by chaining twice as many stitches to start with and using regular ol' worsted weight yarn.
True. But enough humidity will cause your clothes to stick to ya anyway! :-D
The knitting is coming along beautifully!
It is really good! It really didn't take very long to make, but you have to have space cleared ahead of time since you use at least three mixing bowls.
Yeah, it's a little work. That's why I only make it for Christmas and New Years. We also appreciate it more, and it makes for a nice holiday (adult) tradition.
My grandmother used to let us kids drink a cup before it was too heavily spiked. I remember the bourbon sometimes separating in the bottom of the cups, maybe a teaspoonful in each glass.
I'm heading to bed, ladies. See ya tomorrow!
'night.
'Night, Ruthy! Hope work's a little less hectic for ya tomorrow, though I suppose that's a vain hope!
Sleep well!
