The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

feeling better (somewhat) already. Nothing like a little sudafed to perk up the ole honker. Well, there's the resulting nap as well :-) Hmmm, now we are definitely hungry... What to have for brunch... (I think I have some pizza in the freezer)

What would have made a good picture is her expression if she actually made it into the tank!

Rosie, FWIW, I also get that message whenever there is something wrong with the phoneline on their end. Do you have a neighboring phone number or a cell phone number you can call to at least let them know you are trying to reach them?

When I do get that message, I call my mother on her cell phone and let her know it's time to reboot her cable modem. Her home phoneline is tied into her cable. If she loses electricity, for whatever reason, she has to reboot.

You've got prayers from here!

We loved it too.

We could have seen it at Legacy or at McKinney, either way, both cinemas had it showing on opening day. The difference was that at Legacy, the price was 6.00 per person ~ that *is* the matinee price. At McKinney, the Matinee price is 2.50. Not a difficult decision, that.

Speaking of monsters... I think ours are a bit older than yours. Yours are quite fuzzy and still look like kittens. Ours are just miniature cats. They aren't fuzzy at all, and they look exactly like the full grown version, just smaller.

Poor Ben... The kittens came home from the shelter with a cold. They're all better now, but the older cat, Ben, who has never been sick before, is miserable with a stopped up nose and sneezing.

I think ours are also gonna be really long haired - for good or ill - yes, they're fuzzy! ;~D

Too bad about the cold... pretty common for kittens to get nose and eye colds... and they usually recover without special treatment... ~usually~.

Nah, you know what they say, "Good judgement comes from bad experience". As long as it doesn't hurt 'em, let 'em learn the hard way. It sticks better that way.

Truck running OK on the way to work?

There is quite an oil slick under where it was parked last night... I looked, and there is NOT the same kind of slick over in it's usual spot.

It doesn't take a lot of oil to make a slick in a puddle, but you might want to check under it there at work and see if you see anything like this (if you can tell, in a parking lot). Might want to stop by and have Jiffy Lube or someplace see if it's suddenly sprung some kind of serious leak and/or needs to be topped off.

Seemed to be running fine. I just went out and took a look, but didn't see any significant leakage. Kinda hard to tell in a parking lot, though. I'll keep an eye on it, and maybe even try to scrounge a scrap of cardboard from the warehouse to set under there for a few hours.

They only have dial-up. But I did manage to get through - apparently they had phone trouble and didn't notice until Stephen went to make a call and didn't have dial tone. They don't know what the deal was, but apparently it's back up now!

Well, I'm back!

I *think* it went really well. I didn't totally stumble on any questions, and for the most part I said what I wanted to say. It was pretty comfortable - we joked around a bit. And get this - the husband of the gal who would be my boss went to the college I last worked for awhile and really loved Vermont. I know that doesn't *really* mean anything, but it's cool, just the same!

They aren't making a decision until at least the third, as people are out and there are so many days off in between now and then. Got awhile to wait...but here's hopin' I made a good impression. I think I did, but you never know...
