The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmm, so what we're saying is one phone call = two glasses of wine and an adult beverage? I'll have to remember that equation.

Today we're going to see Narnia and I'm attending a friend's graduation. No real plans. It snowed about an inch last night and with what was already there, it looks just lovely.

I'm already beginning to regret I got Tam an early Christmas present of the pompoms he likes to play fetch with. He's doing his impression of a VERY driven (and whiny) Lab this morning. Gonna make cookie baking interesting.

Awwww.....let the kitty play!

I got Miss Cat one of those heat reflecting pad thingies. She seems to like it okay.

I'd be happy to let him play if it didn't involve me every few seconds! Actually, he's being good. I started baking, so he's gotten himself perched on a chair just outside the kitchen to watch.

Springerle almost done...next up is spritz - cookie press cookies. Those are fun! It's like playing with playdough...

Heh. He's probably wondering when you're going to make the tuna cookies.

No coffee this morning because the water service to the building was off. :-/

Heh...you know, he had canned food for maybe the first seven months I had him, and that's it. Halvah's never had canned food on a regular bases. Nothing for them has come out of a can since...except for the VERY occasional dribble of juice from a tuna can. But they STILL come running and howling everytime they hear a can opener. The fudge yesterday called for evaporated milk, and I practically had to boot them out of the way.

That's just wrong...

Are they the kind of coffee makers that rig into the building's water? Or could you confiscate enough bottled water to make a pot?

Waiting for the cafeteria to re-open so I can get some bottled water.

And don't even get me started about the bathroom....

Oooh, I have one of those thingies that mat those cookies. Need to figure out how to make the dough for it.

I know a certain superhero (karateboy) who just loves cookies.

I have an easy recipe if you want it! I'm about halfway done makin' 'em...

I gotta tell ya, though, this is the first time I've used this fancy cookie press. I got it for something like a buck at a Christmas bazaar, but last year just used Mom's old one (at the house), which is dinged up and doesn't have a lever or anyway to KNOW when you've pressed enough dough. It was painful to use. This one works like magic! It actually only presses a set amount of dough out, so they're all beautiful and even!
