The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Bad Bear!

Though...a two post sneak is only mildly naughty. So...there's that.

Good night!

Man...not even ten here, but I think I'm the last one standing. Guess I should get to bed soon anyway...maybe I can get sound asleep before the noise starts.

*sigh*

Here we go again.

I'm not sure I have the guts to haul a guy out of bed to deal with this crap, though.

Rosie, go ahead and call Maintenance. And make sure you tell Maintenance to keep quiet about who complained.

And start keeping a log, girlfriend.

Heh...glad I'm not the only one up! ;-)

I'm just kinda afraid he'll stop before the dude gets here, and I'll look like a jerk.

He didn't stop last night.

Let the maintenance person listen over the phone.

Ugh...well, I called. The gal I got said the policy is to call the police directly. That isn't what the lady at the office said. I'm confused.

Of course, part of that might just be the hour.

Calling the cops is another thing entirely. Man...I just hate this whole thing. I just wanna live my quiet little life, darn it!

I, ill-tempered person that I am, would call the cops. (Actually, it would be my alter ego, Ill-Tempered Black Lady, that would call the cops ... but you don't have that option! <laughing>)

However, I sympathize with your desire to not make waves. It's probably going to be difficult to get the office to do anything constructive about it over the weekend, but Monday morning you can go down to the office, see if they'll put a note on the door. It might just be a misunderstanding --- he may not realize how loud his music is.

Still ... Rosie, if someone doesn't call somebody, it likely won't stop.

If you have a video recorder, or a cassette recorder, tape the sound, so you can take that to the office.

The office said they couldn't take my word for it...I have a feeling they'd respond to a recording the same way. That was why I was supposed to call in maintenance - to verify. But the maintenance person basically said that wasn't the way they do things.

I banged on the ceiling, but they either didn't hear or are ignoring me. And really, I'd rather not get pegged as the complainer, so maybe that's OK.

I guess I'm going to try to sleep for now. Honestly, I'm not even sure *how* to call the police. I've never done it before, except to call a particular station about a missing item one time.

I really wish someone else in the building would deal with it. I can't imagine I'm the only annoyed one.

You have FReepmail.

Maybe we should drive up there and keep you company! <grin>

Huh...odd. I only ever got your first FReepmail. Good info. If he does this again tomorrow night, I'm calling. It seems like an awfully silly thing to have to call law enforcement on, but I guess you gotta do it sometimes. Really should have tonight - I still haven't slept. But at this point, I'm thinking he's GOTTA quit soon, so I'd likely be calling the cops out on a wild goose chase.

*sigh*

Since I can never sleep in much no matter how late I stay up, I'm gonna be running on about three and a half hours of sleep by the end of the night, most liely. Yay.

Does your Parish participate in a dinner for the homeless or the elderly? Our Diocese does that every year, and there are families that go each year to help serve dinner. It's a great service, and it sure would be something fun for you to do.

there are plenty who see anything that uses reverb and non-acoustic instruments as horrific.

Celtic music snobs. ;o)

I love the song, "I Heard the Voice of Jesus". It is sung to a tune that Rosie knows well. She and her family played it on their CD. It's variably known as "Girl from the North Country" and "Star of the Country Down", and by a couple of other names as well. One of my favorite versions is by Ralph Vaughn Williams, called "Variants on Dives and Lazarus".

I'm off to take Clare for her Driver's License Road Test! Woo Hoo!

You're kidding! He went on all night? That's ridiculous. March back in there today and ask about what the heck they're playing at.

Just got back from running sister's friend to the airport. We camped Panera until they opened at 6:30 and I had some sourdough. Back, and no one else is even up.

Good grief, Rosie!

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that crapola in the middle of the night. :-(

Hope you've slept in a bit today.
