Yesterday my husband and I were doing some errands. We were stopped at a red light and woman in a truck pulled up beside us, but just a little ahead. On her back window was a sticker that said, "I f#$%ed your boyfriend." (it was written out, no symbols like I just did) She also had several other offensive stickers, but that one was by far the worst. When the light turned green we got up beside her, my husband honked several times to get her attention but she wouldn't look at us. She finally did and I mouthed "you pig" at her. I'm just glad I didn't have my 5 kids with me, included my 6 year old who likes to read everything she sees, out loud.
I see what kind of debater/reader you are. You didn't address the overall concept of what I said and then you proceeded to get personal. Oh well.
Just finished reading this thread from top to bottom, and felt like adding my two cents here.
As posted by several people, the bumper sticker was probably displayed to evoke a reaction from the reader. Some people probably laughed and some might have reacted the way you did. The woman in question may not have the same values you do, but you didn't say you knew her, so how can you judge exactly what her sleeping habits are. How can you be sure the truck she was driving didn't belong to another person and that she borrowed it to move or to pick up a new washer or dryer.
Even if it were her vehicle, the bumper sticker may not have been bragging about her sleeping around, but merely to shock people. That might place her in the attention whore category, but how can you know.
Before you pass judgement on my outlook, you should know that I was raised "right" and once had my mouth washed out with soap for saying "dang it". Not because it's a bad word, but because of the "way" I used it. As an aside, I have hated the taste of Ivory since.
From that day forward, I've questioned the tendency of people to judge others for what they might be thinking as it runs counter to the axiom of "judge not".
It's so maddening, though. You want to do something, but what would work?
You know I don't know how many times I've sat in fast food resturants and heard the F word over and over from kids at other tables.

When I have this experience, I put on my best Victorian- lady-ready-to-faint face and say, "Gentlemen (or Sir), please! Your language!" Works every time.
Here on earth, certain words are obscene and there is no excuse for coarsening our society by accepting them in public.

Thank you, thank you, SD.
Some people have no sense. If they're "just words" I wonder if the guy you answered would think it is okay then to have bumper stickers with racial slurs.
Again, its a word.

So, if some KKK type has a bumper sticker with racial epithets on it, are you okay with that?
OMW! Your tagline. LOL!
One I saw the other day said Barbie is such a B_____. I like you have a 6 yr. old who reads everything. She saw Barbie and started to read. Luckily the light turned green and the car moved before she read the rest.
Not free speech, any more than showing a XXX rated movie on the public sidewalk would be.
You would be suprised.
I'm rarely surprised. Saddened, confirmed in my belief in the essential depravity of unchecked human nature, but rarely surprised.
Exactly...nothing else really needs to be said.
P.S. I hear congratulations are in order....check your mail!!!!
