Columbus- Ohio State senior linebacker Bobby Carpenter does not know if he will play in the Fiesta Bowl after breaking his right fibula against Michigan.

Speaking for the first time since the injury, Carpenter said Sunday he did not need surgery, but the 6-to-8 week recovery time puts the final game of his career on the edge of his timetable.

The Fiesta Bowl will be played on Jan. 2, 44 days after the Buckeyes' 25-21 win over Michigan.

Carpenter began walking without crutches only in the past few days, while still wearing a protective boot. He not only has the Fiesta Bowl to consider, but the NFL combine in late February. Carpenter is expected to be picked in the first three rounds of April's NFL draft.

Reggie Bush is taking full advantage of linebackers who take that approach.

I don't think he should play and they should hold him out. The game means nothing. He has his NFL career to look forward too..... BTW look for him to go (assuming he's healthy) last 1st or early 2nd round. He will be a Defensive End in the NFL.

Agreed!

Should be an o.k. game for State.

yep....

the USC offense is an NFL offense. You can't defend it with your basic college defense or else their skill players will eat you alive.

Also, he is fast and strong enough that arm tackles aren't going to bring him down easily. If you are playing out of position and hustle to the play, chances are with the speed of Bush, you will be forced to make an arm tackle. Just ask Fresno State.

The Notre Dame game was different because Weis has been introducing some of the NE defensive schemes into the mix. I don't know if Texas will read and heed, but then again, they have better athletes on defense than ND or Oklahoma had.

yeah I think so. The matchups favor them in this one. Sure ND can throw the ball, but can they stop OSU if OSU isn't turning the ball over? I don't think they can.

It'll take a couple of years for Weis to get the defensive recruits he needs for ND to challenge for the big prize.

USC vs. ND is going to be a game of national importance again for the foreseeable future.

I was dissapointed in the 90's when Oklahoma went to hell and Nebraska was crushing them year after year. Now they've switched roles. It'd be good for the Big 12 to see Nebraska get their act back together.

Living in Texas and as a big time Sooner Fan (both my kids went there...I thought there was no way that USC could beat us last year....but I got to tell you Texas has some "Hosses".. Their offense is awesome and they have some folks on the defense side of the equasion that can run with Bush. He is a talent for sure, but I think the Longhorns may have a chance to contain him... I like the +7 that I got betting on Texas.

yeah....

and it's always good to have some of the big teams playing well.

50% of College football is love for your team. 45% is hating the other team and 5% is the cheerleaders....

We will see....

the game comes down to the Texas defense. If they play well, then they have a shot. If they don't then it's going to be a high scoring game, which favors USC.

Beating Michigan wouldn't be nearly as fun if they were 2-8 going into the big game would it?
