Word For The Day, Wednesday, December 7, 2005 - malversation
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary ^ | 12/07/2005 | The Janitor

Posted on 12/07/2005 6:09:18 AM PST by VRWCmember

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

malversation \mal-ver-SAY-shun\ noun

1. misbehavior and especially corruption in an office, trust, or commission *
2. corrupt administration

*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.

A picture of bill clinton appears next to this word in the dictionary

Example sentence:
The governor was finally convicted of malversation, after years of rumors about kickbacks and illegal contracts.

Did you know?
The form "mal-" is often a bad sign in a word, and "malversation" is no exception. In Middle French, "mal-" (meaning "bad," from the Latin word for "bad," "malus") teamed up with "verser" ("to turn, handle," from the Latin verb "vertere," "to turn ") to create "malverser," a verb meaning "to be corrupt." This in turn led to "malversation," which was adopted by English speakers in the mid-16th century. Some other "mal-" descendants are "maladroit" ("inept"), "malcontent" ("discontented"), and "maltreat" ("to treat badly").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Should be like this:

There once was a malversation
That wreaked havoc on the nation
Bubba got BJ's in the Oval Office
OBL scoffed, "This guy's gonna stop us?"
Thank God he's out of the equation.

This is PATHETIC! Like one of the responders said, they're hoping we're going to have an orgy?

In the Clinton years, pure malversation
Not much action, just trite conversation
I could never condone
His getting laid, yanked and blown
A poster boy for penile amputation

There are countless secular holiday songs to choose from like "Frosty the Snowman" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," but the district's spokeswoman told KPRC Local 2 that the class concerts are age appropriate and those songs were too young for 5th-graders.

If you shall believe him in this, O youth, by Bacchus, you will be like the sons of Hippocrates, and they will call you a booby.

One of the local talk show guys is saying that if your school has winter break instead of Christams break you should take the entire winter off and when questioned about it just say the school said it was a "winter break" so they gave me the idea that I get winter off.

We don't have these thoughts in our minds when the instinct kicks in, this is just an attempt to explain why the instinct reacts to large bosoms. You're welcome. Please send me $20.00 U.S. for this brilliant exposition. And your autographed picture of Ronald Reagan. Thank you. You're welcome.

Most guys see big guns like that and they aren't thinking about propagating the species, just about getting laid.

I figured since we were on Boobies, it seemed appropriate....lol...

It seemd quite ironic to me, that I happened to be reading Clouds at that point where Unjust Cause speaks that line this morning....

Anyone watch "Curb your Enthusiasm"? The season finale was hilarious. I especially cracked up at how Larry David acted entirely different when he thought he was a Gentile.

Hi, Vastie:

The Left lays claim to the party of malversation
That's Brown Eye full of constipation
Lacks alliteration and relishes regulation
Feighns accreditation with most of the nation
Failing miserably with the younger generation
Well aware that no amount of prestidigitation
Will raise them from their most lowly station.
