December 3, 2005 -- An alleged Bloods gang member already a suspect in the death of his girlfriend and a plot to kill his stepfather was charged yesterday with killing a Queens man over a cigarette. Devendra Singh, 26, allegedly gunned down Ryan Varma on Nov. 19 outside Mingles Bar on 101st Avenue. The wild shooting occurred hours after Varma, 27, innocently asked Singh for a cigarette, which police sources said made Singh feel "disrespected."
"I would like to know why he did it, what's the cause?" Varma's father, Lloyd, told The Post. "I'm angry. Just for one cigarette, he killed my son. I can't believe it."
Singh was in a Jeep with friends riding away from the bar at about 4 a.m. when he pulled out a .25-caliber handgun and fired six to eight shots at Varma, striking him once in the back, prosecutors said.
The trigger-happy thug told cops he just wanted to scare Varma not kill him claiming he didn't know he hit Varma until being questioned in the murder, sources said.
Singh was charged with second-degree murder and weapons possession, and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He was in police custody last night awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court.

Like Singh, Varma is Guyanese and smoked Newport cigarettes.

Wonder if Bloomberg will blame the NRA again?
I'm sure the tobacco nazis will add this to their stats of smoking deaths.
A twofer, the NRA and Big Tobacco.
Fired shots at him....killing him.....and it's second degree???
Just goes to show smoking does kill.
But more interesting is Singh fired 5 to 6 shots and only hit his victim once.
Looks like he picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
Guess the moral of the story is... Smoking kills?
Funny, they never seem to give any.
"Fired shots at him....killing him.....and it's second degree???"
Usually the difference between first degree and second degree is that second degree, instead of premeditated murder, is a murder committed in the course of a felony.
It's a way of getting killers on capital murder without having to prove premeditation.
This could all have been prevented if they would just ban smoking and guns in New York City.
Well, you know, young folk . . .
Maybe asking for "a smoke"
is a gay pick up . . .
Not only that, but he killed him with one shot from a .25.
"But more interesting is Singh fired 5 to 6 shots and only hit his victim once."
Pure chance that he even hit him once. At night, from a moving jeep, thug that most likely has no training...
I thought the bloods were'nt an organized gang outsie L.A. - that they were just the loal L.A. gangs that weren't crips.
Any relation to Ofdeeyi Singh?
And rather quickly,lol.ha ha
