Two Litters Of Legless Puppies Born

SAN DIEGO -- Animal control officers in Hollister, Calif., are a little worried after they received two litters of puppies in the last couple of weeks that show signs of what they consider inbreeding.

Some of the puppies were born with no front legs.

But one little pup doesn't seem to mind at all. She was seen playing with her mom like any other healthy, happy puppy.

With a tail that was constantly wagging, the happy little camper chased her momma and even leaped across the cage onto her momma.

This story has a very happy ending for all the puppies involved. They have all been adopted.

Birth defects can be chemically induced.

What you say is true, but consider that if this were the case, this phenomenon would manifest itself in the local population of all animals.

Given that, inbreeding is the likeliest culprit.

No, I don't think that would be a good idea at all. As a matter of fact I wouldn't even give the dog a name. You just need to face the facts, the dog is not going to come if you call it.

Also, don't ever teach the little dog to roll over unless the ground is level. If you do it on a hill, you will never see your dog again.

I meant those that are the product of drugs and chemicals given directly to the animals. I've seen this and had to deal with the scum that do this.

Inbreeding is the least likely culprit. For it to be inbreeding requires one of two unlikely scenarios.
(1) that there is a mutation in this population of dogs that has never been expressed until now.
or
(2) this puppy's breeder has a mutated dog with a very rare gene change causing large morphological changes.

Given the odds, I think this is more likely to be the result of some meth head or the like.

I adopted a Rhodesian Ridgeback who was born without a ridge because the breeder wanted euthanasia . Now that I remember, my brother is the vet he was taken to for the job but good brother refused. He called me instead and I came right over and picked Odie up and loved him dearly for 13 years. The next year I adopted Hazel for the same reason.

I would draw the line at adopting a dog without any front legs. I think they should be put down but I see I am in the minority.

Can we call him "Neil?"

Doesn't matter what you call him. He can't come.

Yes it has.

Since they aren't politically minded, they don't understand liberalism and have found that making do with what one has can make for a brighter future rather than hiring an attorney and spending their life trying to lay blame for individual gratification.

Innocence can be blissful.

I'm curious though; there's mention of "some" were legless - yet they keep talking about this 1 and all pix are of her. Are there really other legless pups or not?

I remember seeing such a dog (if not the same) - he was sort of a Whippet or other greyhound-type dog. 2 legs same side, light-colored if not white. He was really something.

Too bad this baby doesn't at least have that - but she could probably just get a wheeled block-harness put on her front for the most part.
