Hello, all.
paul has surprised us by not starting the thread this week (another power outage, could it be?) As the emergency backup guy, I will have to go ahead and post the thread and do the pinging honors. I don't have an updated version of the ping list, so my apologies to anyone who was added recently who isn't on here.
Now start chatting while I look up some cute pictures.

I saw that article. it is SOMETHING like I have envisioned.... BUT it still appears to be a disc-based format, with scanning mechanically advanced, like a CD, LD, or DVD disc. I thought of TOTALLY solid-state memory devices, that use some non-mechanical, (holographic matrix of light, or something), to advance the scanning beam, at a MUCH faster rate, than a slide-type or rotating arm type-pickup, as optical media use.
I do see your point though, when I think of how your computer works in your book, I keep thinking of the memory core HAL-9000 had where the astronaut pulled out the glasslike memory cores and HAL starts to get dumber and dumber until he just shuts down.
On another front...... There seems to be a SICK belief, IMHO, that if a man has sexual relations with an underage girl, that is RAPE, pure and simple.... BUT... SOME PEOPLE, (including some here) say there is NOTHING wrong with a WOMAN doing the same thing to an underage BOY!!!!
AM I out of step, for feeling that "what is good for the goose, is good for the gander",and that it is a CRIME, of EQUAL intensity, REGARDLESS of which sex the perpetrator is ????
Hmmm, playing Devil's Advocate for a sec, well in the eyes of some in society, they see males doing that as "sowing his wild oats" while women are meant to be pure until marriage. Naturally I don't subscribe to that belief, but it seems like many do believe that. Also on the other side of the coin, if your scenario took place, a lot of people will say "poor girl" while if it was reversed (young male teen, grown up woman) would say, "alright, he scored!!!" B-(
There was a case here in Pennsylvania (I think it was local here in Pittsburgh) where a teacher, he was pushing 40, I think he was around our age at that time, married a 14 or 15 year old girl, I don't remember the specifics all the way (I don't know if the parents OKed it or not, which they must for someone of that age according to the law), it took place in 1980-81 IIRC, and it created an uproar like you wouldn't believe yet if it was reversed, it would be like "ho-hum." Of course there is a 25 year difference here but if the PA case happened today, I'm sure you'd get the same hue and cry against it. I think the teacher's name was something like Kristoff, I'd like to Google it down and see if I can piece together a "what ever happened to... story."
I see your point clearly, for the law to be valid and to work, it must apply equally to all, either make it a crime no matter what the genders are or legalize it. I don't believe in being libertine at all, but the point is that it has to be applied fairly no matter what, otherwise "what's the point?" as the saying goes.
I know off on a tangent, even though I'm generally a "Richard M. Nixon law and order type," that's one of the reasons why I'm against capital punishment, although I can think up other punishments to take the place of it. I'm NOT with the "Free Mumia coddle a criminal crowd" and I think those types do make it look bad for the rest of us who are intellectually and/or spiritually against it. Maybe I'm a little bit of a hypocrite here though, if a few terrorists are executed or if Mumia should be put down, I wouldn't miss them at all and probably even think the world would be a better place but usually I'm talking about cases to where there is even one molecule of a doubt.
So in essence, I do agree with you, the law should apply equally to all and if not, either changed to do so in a way that it would. Between all of us here, it seems like the world is starting to become like "Lord of the Flies" on steroids.

Here ya go. My unsolicited advice: keep basic information about yourself (Age, gender, basic location) in your tagline all the time--- you know the rest.
