What Is Your Favorite CD (or cassette)?
11/21/05 | MplsSteve

A few weeks ago, I posted "What Are You Reading Right Now?". Got a great cross-section of responses from Freepers. In another month or two, I'll repeat the question. But now, I have another question.

What is favorite CD, album or cassette of all time?

It can be country, blues, 80's-style rock, etc. Anything.

I'll start.

My two favorites are:

"World Falling Down" (1992) by Peter Cetera. Not as sappy as you might think. An album written at a down-time in his life.

"Rebel Yell" (1982) Billy Idol. A great collection of rock songs. Some of his best songs (on this CD) never made the Top 40.

OK, what's your favorite?

I knew it was risking putting there name on this forum but unless everyone on FR is going through their music collection and knows the politcial affiliation of ever artist in their collection...

Actually, Teeny is the only one to give me grief over it so far.

What did Billy Idol ever do to you!?

He's was just "dancing with myself"...when it was "hot in the city". I know he prefers "LA Woman" but he might actually like a seattle man, or maybe a "man for all seasons".

He does know how to make "mony mony".

Omar Faruk Tekbelik's Dance to Eternity
Alabina's Alabina
Natasha Atlas' Halim
Hossam Ramsy's Tabla Solo's

Weird, those are my favorites, too!

;-)

Cassettes? What's that? Oh those things, Haven't used 'em in close to 15 years. Might as well ask about LP's or 45's. Now my Dad had some reel-to-reel that was awesome!

My tastes are rather odd. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Rebecca St. James, "Wait For Me: The Best From Rebecca St. James." Though, I also liked her album "God." She's a great Christian artist.
2. The soundtrack for the movie "Shrek." The "Shrek 2" sountrack was pretty good too, but I definitely liked the first one better. Even though I normally hate the Baha Men, I often sing along to their song on it, "Best Years of Our Lives." In addition, Dana Glover's "It is You (I Have Loved)" is easily the most beautiful love song I've ever heard, I'll have it played at my wedding some day.
3. Bill Cosby, "Himself." This was back when he was in his prime, and even though it was made about 25 years ago, most of the jokes are still relevant today, and still hilarious.
4. Adam Sandler, "What the Hell Happened to Me?" Incredibly funny album. It has the first version of his "Chanukah Song,", and most of the other tracks are pretty funny too, especially "Respect."

Best years of our lives? The soundtrack?
I'd be interested in hearing that song.
I'm a sucker for a love song anytime.

The soundtrack for the movie "Shrek."
"Hallelujah" by John Cale is also a beautiful song. Too bad the soundtrack CD used a version by Rufus Wainwright instead, which is okay but not as good.

"I don't want to set the world on fire, I just want to start a flame in your heart". Ah, yes, the Ink Spots.

Mills Brothers Greatest Hits
Dave Brubeck Take Five
Soundtrack from movies: LOTR, Chocolate, Benny and Joon, the first two Harry Potter movies, Phantom of the Opera, Amadeus, and That Thing You Do are some of my favorites, depending on my mood.

I also like "alternative" stuff, like "Spirit of Tibet" and "Celtic Quest" (which I think I bought at WalMart).

The John Cale version of the song does show up on the "Scrubs" soundtrack. And it is quite striking.
