Currently 14-10 5 minutes left in 2nd Quarter. Fresno State marching down the field preparing to score again
I mean, ND lost at home to a 5-6 MSU squad that's not even bowl-eligible. This is an absoulte joke, and anyone ranking ND over Oregon is an idiot.
yeah probably LOL
I know, but everyone is infatuated with ND this year.
The Pac 10 isn't going to bail. USC is going to be in the BCS title game.
Just like the SEC didn't bail last year.
60% of the country thinks the Pac-10 is a one trick pony, which is USC. That is going to end up determining the bowls.
I would....
They nearly beat USC. I think ND would beat Oregon. Oregon was blown away in the 2nd half.
The SEC would bail if they had a one loss team being aced out by two two loss teams. Remember 2001? Oregon blows out Colorado, Nebraska blown out in a title game that Oregon should have been in. Cal loses to by far the best team in the country last year in the final series for its only loss and gets screwed.
A team with two losses, especially one to a 5-6 team, has no business being in the BCS over Oregon whose only loss is to SC.
The SEC is going to stay. They don't have a horse in this fight.
So then, instead of getting a $13 million payout in the BCS and whatever other payouts in the other games, the Pac-10 will walk away from that kinda money? NO way in hell.
If you look, the Big Ten and the ACC are rated above everyone else. Look for an At-Large to come from there.
If you truly want Oregon in, cheer for Stanford to knock off ND this weekend. That is *probably* Oregon's only hope at the moment.
I was at the game last night. What an experience! My voice is very hoarse, and I feel like I went 15 rounds. That game was like the boxing match of the century. The Dogs were courageous, we were loud, and the Trojan fans were obnoxious. What else is new?
Yes, it always seems that the winning teams fans are obnoxious, at least they seem that way to the losing teams fans.
I was just using the SEC as an example--no conference would tolerate a one loss team such as Oregon getting screwed by two two loss teams.
The last time something like this happened the pac10 made some noise and insisted that Oregon State get a BCS bid. They then trounced Notre Dame.
Your bias is showing. Your comment about the pac10 being a one-trick pony is telling. You can't possibly look at this objectively and put ND ahead of Oregon.
If Oregon gets shut out and another team gets screwed again, yes the pac10 will and may as well walk. Why should the pac10 stay in the BCS? Pac10's not getting any extra payout because it gets screwed every year. Pac10 will keep the Rose Bowl for its number one team and still get the same amount of money.
ASU thumped Northwestern, scoring 52. The next week, Penn State squeaks by NW, and NW is tied for 3rd in the Big10. Yeah, what a strong conference. And Penn St's nonconference schedule is a joke.
Sure I can.
I can look at similar games and look at how ND outplayed USC for 55 minutes of their game whereas Oregon only outplayed USC for 30.
It isn't my bias you have to worry about. It's the pollsters. And if they are to pick, you better believe they will look long and hard at a Big Ten team that travels well vs. a Pac 10 team that travels well.
The Pac10 could keep the Rose, but who would go with them? No one. The BCS is too big a cash cow right now and the money will increase next year with the new TV deal with Fox.
and OSU trashed NW and barely lost to Texas, who *might* beat USC. So what? If you want to look at that, then I can say ND is better than Oregon.
how about this...
you hope that Stanford wins against ND and then Oregon gets either Penn State/Ohio State or Virginia Tech....
Of course, this is assuming that Either Texas or USC doesn't lose, because then Penn State (which will probably be #3 in the BCS tomorrow) would end up in the Rose. I don't think LSU's SOS is good enough to push it past Penn State, and I don't think it will be even after the SEC championship game.
It is amazing how clueless the rest of the country is regarding the Pac-10. You bring up the 6-1 BCS record (and all six were routs), you bring up the NFL rosters, you bring up the head-to-head numbers between conferences, and still, none of it matters to some of these people. Oregon will probably get screwed, which is the same old story. Either way, I wish Oregon still had Clemens at QB, because he was really good, although the young kid is coming along just fine. Seems like half the Pac has lost their QB's to injury this year. It's to Oregon's credit that they didn't lose after their QB went down.
BTW we were having a great time mocking the Trojans and their fans behind their back the whole game. I took great pleasure at seeing them sweating it out, having to play the whole 60 minutes of the game.
We won the first one against them on a neutral field. They won the next one on their home field. Do you think they'd have the guts to schedule us again for the rubber game - this time on our home field? .....I didn't think so.
Go back and read some of my posts in this thread before you try and start something with me, especially those where I talk about the Bulldogs. Start with # 358 and #330. Follow the link in 330 to see what I thought of the game before it was played.
However, you obviously don't know the history between Fresno State and USC. Fresno State's been the red-headed stepchild university in the West. And USC for DECADES refused to schedule us, even at the Coliseum.
Even when I started attending Fresno State in 1982, when the Dogs had Henry Ellard and Stephone Paige on the same team and went 11-0-1, year after year would pass without a game with USC. This continued even as we built the program from the obscure to nationally recognized.
Finally, in 1992, we were paired with the Trojans in the Freedom Bowl. Before that game there was zero respect for the Dogs by the players or the fans. In fact the Trojans' quarterback, Rob Johnson, said before the game, "They [the Bulldogs] aren't fit to wear my jockstrap." Believe me, such was the attitude of the players and the fans on that day. I know - I was there.
We then proceeded to pound the Trojans 24-7. The headlines the next day focused on how humiliating it was to lose to Fresno State. A week later the Trojans' coach was fired.
Since that game, everytime I saw a USC graduate I would say, "So, when are you going to have the guts to play Fresno State again?" Thirteen years passed, and and we have played probably every other Pac-10 school. We played UCLA three times in the regular season and once in a bowl game. Still, USC refused to play us.
FINALLY, this year we got a game with the Trojans at the Coliseum. AFTER they had won two national championships and came into 2005 with their strongest team. And AFTER they had attempted to fill the spot on the schedule by contacting 35 schools before us!
I'm sure it was just my imagination too that all I got was dirty looks from USC fans while I was in lines at Saturday's game. I guess I was just hearing things when I heard, "What are you people doing over on this side [of the coliseum near the concession stands]?" I'm sure it was all very respectful.
I, on the other hand, did nothing to antagonize the opposing fans. I just waited to get to my section to support my team, and enjoyed seeing USC have a harder time against us than any other team, except Notre Dame. Forgive me if I took a few verbal potshots at the Trojan fans and players in the privacy of my own section. It was nothing personal.
As for the players, I have the utmost respect for this team, and as far as I know, no player has gone on record as disrespecting our team. I also believe, unlike the '92 team, that they gave us their complete focus and effort in this game. That made it all the more satisfying that we took them to the brink. You have to understand, this was our national championship game. The cards are stacked against us ever making a BCS bowl game unless we go undefeated and get lucky in the polls.
I also have an appreciation for the history of this game. Reggie Bush was unbelievable and deserves the Heisman, especially after this game. It was a privilege to see him play the game like that, even if it was against us.
For what it's worth, I grew up in Southern California rooting on the Trojans. And I'll be rooting for them here on in. I'm hoping they kick the tails of UCLA and especially Texas, and go on to a third national championship, because then we can say we gave the Team of the Century their toughest game.
Try wearing cardinal and gold up here in the bay area if you want to know what 'alien treatment' is like. You now make a strong case for the sentiments that you have, but your earlier comments painted a picture of anger and frustration wrapped up in bitterness.
As for me, I know the Bulldogs well, and have for some time(I am a Long Beach State grad, who started CSULB in Tark's last season).
As for being disrespected by fans at the game. There are A-Holes in every crowd, most people acknowledge this and do not hold it against the entire school.
Hey Diamond, when all is said and done, you lost. You played two Pac-10 teams this year, scheduled three months apart, and lost to both. Quality efforts by your team, but both losses. In between, you ran a talented group of players out there against one of the weakest powder puff schedules in the country, and then you try to take bows because in your one big game since September, your healthy, rested veteran team was able to fire up and stay close (but not win) to a national power who has to battle difficult opponents all year long. Being in the Pac-10 (or any other real conference) means that after losing to USC this past weekend, you would get ready to play UCLA the next, and then Cal after that, and then Arizona State, and all the rest of them. And unlike in your po-dunk league where you are able to post 8 wins each year without even being challenged, you get beat up physically every weekend in the Pac-10. You guys were just like playing another Pac-10 team for USC. Fresno is a talented team, well coached, with a veteran quarterback and athletes all over the field. That's what a Pac-10 team looks like. And you'll notice that over the past couple undefeated seasons, USC has had many close contests against Pac-10 teams. Are you guys good enough to be a Pac-10 team? Absolutely, and you have been for a decade and a half. But if you ever do get into a conference like the Pac-10, you'll find the going a little tougher against these teams than when you only play them once or twice a year.
So 'Mock' that.
Incredible that a visiting Fresno State fan would be surprised and complain about taking heat from a home team's fans at a college football game. I mean, I've never heard of such a thing, fans getting on each other at a football game. Gimme a break.
