I think the same way. The British, although they were no angels, did adhere to a basic code of morality. Although not perfect, it did provide Ghandi enough wiggle room to do what he did. If it was the Nazis or Japanese in India, Ghandi and his followers would have had the life expectancy of a pizza in a college dorm.
